US role in British hostage release....
Edited on Sun Apr-08-07 04:58 PM by Postman
The White House involvement in the hostages’ release has been confirmed. When the crisis broke, the US and Iraqi governments offered to help. Several initiatives were under way before the release, allowing officials to say that developments were coincidental.

First came the release last Tuesday of Jalal Sharafi, an Iranian diplomat missing in Iraq since February. A US administration source said he had been in a joint Iraqi and American facility, though this was denied by a British source.

On Wednesday the Red Cross was granted access to five Iranians who were detained by US forces in January in Iraq. Iran’s President Mah-moud Ahmadinejad announced the same day that the British captives could go home.

Hoshyar Zebari, the Iraqi foreign minister, said yesterday that he was pressing the Americans to release the five Iranian detainees, or at least to transfer them to Iraqi custody.

(sarcasm on)What happened to the "we don't negotiate with terrorists" line? Isn't Iran a part of the "axis of evil"? Why would Bush make deals with "the enemy"? Has someone alerted Fox News? (sarcasm off)

3. Is water wet?, Does the sun rise in the east?
You can bet he will try anything he can to take what ever credit he can get.
Meanwhile out of the other side of his mouth, he will be proclaiming the threat Iran is to the US ie Israel

6. Oh, the same Jalal Sharafi that the US supposedly tortured?
Isn't the US magnanimous and compassionate?! :eyes:
Actually, when offering thanks to the different entities that helped, Blair purposefully left the US out of that little speech.

Sunday, April 08, 2007
Ali Akbar Dareini
Associated Press

Tehran, Iran- An Iranian diplomat freed two months after being abducted in Iraq accused the CIA of torturing him during his detention, state television reported Saturday.

The United States immediately denied any involvement in the Iranian's disappearance or release.

Jalal Sharafi, who was freed Tuesday, said the CIA questioned him about Iran's relations with Iraq and assistance to various Iraqi groups, according to state television.

8. I'd interpret it as the British told Bush "Do this thing..."
"...or you are going to find our support a whole lot less supportive, old chap."

9. The bush regime doesn't want Syria getting the credit for negotiating
the prisoners' releases.

And of course the bush regime wants to drown out the FACT that tony the bLiar had to tell the bush regime to BACK OFF and STFU when bush offered to "scare" Iran (by of course breaking yet more international laws).
