1. She jumped the shark too soon.
I was hoping she'd win the 2012 nomination. When all my left-leaning coworkers were freaking out after her nomination, I was the contrarian who had to give the pep talks.

She's just way too much fun to leave the scene just yet.

she won't be leaving the scene. She loves the spotlight way too much.

She couldn't let Michael Jackson steal all the glory now, could she? She HAD to do something to woo the media back.

I wish more than anything that she would just go back to Wasilla with her family and disappear from our consciousness, but I don't see that happening any time soon. Her talk of an unspecified "higher calling" makes me uneasy.

11. If you're not familiar with the expression/term 'alas', I'm not sure I can really translate.
I suppose some examples in context might help. If I can think of some good ones I'll come back and post them as a reply to your post.
