UPDATE: Alaskan Sarah Palin authority (and occasional BRAD BLOG guest blogger) Shannyn Moore, who originally broke the news at HuffPo today, tells me she believes, with good reason, that there is an "iceberg scandal that's about to break. She's doing damage control."

She says Palin is "resigning as part of damage control" due to a scandal this is "not of a family nature."

"The governor would not be able to continue her job when it comes out," she told me on the phone just now, before adding: "Why would Mark Sanford not resign, but Sarah Palin did? Her family didn't even know about the resignation until they were standing with her by the lake" when she made her announcement...

If Shannyn Moore, a reporter, gave this "tip" to Brad, then it isn't a Bradblog "exclusive". Words mean things and Brad should know better.

Also, I think that this "exclusive" is pretty weak. Simply speculating that Palin resigned because of a scandal that is not "family related" is a GUESS that the vast majority of poltical junkies probably suspected when they heard it.

be about her and the husband's involvement with a strange political party. This is not the Republican party. They are still busy courting the fringe constituency which bites the heads off snakes at tent revivals. I think Palin is involved with the Independent Party in Alaska which advocates that Alaska should secede from the U.S. She seemed to get pretty agitated when it was being discussed in the media outlets. I think the legality of secession was decided by the Civil War and advocating it now is considered to be close to treason.

I wonder if there is more to their involvement than simple words or if something really ugly is lurking around the corner that they are trying to hide by having her leave office?

There are contractors, expenditures, building materials that did not miraculously appear on their lot. You can hide some money in a freezer maybe, but you can't build a home without a gigantic paper trail.
