3. Me neither . . .
. . . which is a bit weird. I also don't know anyone who has been murdered or shot in a drive-by. I only know two people who have served time. Only one person who was in an armed robbery. I knew a lot of people who have died from cancer, and a few from AIDS.

4. Yes. 24%??? What if more of us were affected by this war?
You can count on it that there would be a LOT more outrage.

5. No, but I'm in my 60's now. During Vietnam, I knew many who had been killed or wounded.
This time around, my age group peers aren't involved and my friends are affluent enough that their children and grandchildren are unlikely to be in the military, except for those few who went to a service academy.

But, my heart still breaks becasue I'll never forget what it was like to learn that my high school classmates had been killed, my college classmates had been killed, my co-workers fiance had been killed, etc. Each and every one of them is imprinted on my memory.

9. Yes
Not counting the Marine Corpsman I met @ a rally.

A neighbors son ..... 2 cracked ribs and facial cut from an I.E.D. ...
he was back w/ his unit in 10 days.

A good friend's son who is in the 82nd Airborne .... Lighting Task Force .....
I die every time I hear or read about them being hit .... so far he is O.K. but
the word I heard is that it (Iraq) is a meat grinder of an operation and sooner
or later if you are doing certain duty you will get killed or wounded. Seems
like a lot of the locals don't like us too much.

10. Not physically
but one of my old martial arts students has not been to see me since he's been back, and I fear his already injured psyche is not going to be well anytime in the foreseeable future.

When he signed up for the guard, I told him it was a one way ticket to Iraq, and he thought me a fool. Now he is married, and waiting for his next rotation. I dont think he is a good candidate for combat at this point, judging by what I can tell second hand.

14. My brother commanded a minesweeper at the beginning of the war
He and his crew made it to Basra and back without any casualties, and they disposed of a lot of ordnance on the way.

15. Yes, two KIA.
Par for the course, though, they were both classmates of mine in OCS, so it probably doesn't count.
