Fact. America pays more than twice per person for health care than any other nation Fact. For this huge outlay of money America gets 3rd world health outcomes. Fact. Wait times in ER's and for some specialists are longer than in other industrialized nations Fact. The number one cause of bankruptcy in America is health bills, usually caused by denial of service. Fact. Health insurance makes our companies less competitive internationally. Fact. No other nation rations health care as much as America, either through not providing care or through denying care Fact. Insurance companies are making record profits Fact. Private insurers have overheads ranging from 20% to 50% with an average of 27% for the industry. Fact. Medicare has an administrative overhead of 3% ... and that is with medicare setting the rules for private companies to administer for them through contract. Fact. The next highest administrative costs in industrialized nations, all of which cover all of their citizens, is Canada at 7%. And they have HUGE costs we will never face in America. Fact. Socialized medicine only exists in 1 industrialized nation - England. The rest of the countries have doctors that work for themselves. Fact. Medical research is alive and well outside the US. We will not suddenly become bereft of medicine if we contain costs despite what Big Pharma says. Fact. Medical care is excellent outside the US. Fact. In other industrialized countries parents NEVER have to decide if they will pay the rent or take little Suzy to the doctor. Fact. One of the reasons that life ending cancer is so prevalent in the US is that most people will not see a doctor, assuming they can get an appointment, until it is too late. Fact. We pay more for health care than any other country. Fact. Only in America is a big cumbersome bureaucracy making medical decision that overrule doctors. In other countries medical decisions are strictly up doctors and their patients.
Fact. Given all these facts and the fact that we still aren't talking about a public option then one must conclude that either; Americans are stupid, Congress is bought and paid for, American's really hate other American's (To identify this vermin in it's natural stage listen for their call "Iain'tPayinForThatLazyBum.Iain'tPayinForThatLazyBum"), or likely a combination of all three.

Satire is a great vehicle for pointing out our absurdities, and are health care system is absurd to the extreme. It's insane and it's killing people.
I think the health care issue may possibly be one of those moments in time that changes the political landscape. It all depends on the will of the people.
I know I've moved Diane Feinstein up with Max Baucus on my democrats I despise list. Her " let them eat cake" moment was incredibly haughty, arrogant, and obnoxious.

| 25. What the repugs I know hate most is the idea of spending one cent of THEIR |
 |
money on an undeserving "indigent" (I've heard some say as much). Screw what Jesus said about the poor; repugs HATE poor people even if they ARE poor themselves. They hate blacks and other non-whites most of all, and the thought of spending a penny on a medicine for a poor black child-a penny that they would just as soon leave on the sidewalk-fills them with rage. Modern conservatism is a mental disorder.

What's even more chilling is that their twisted beliefs are more and more accepted in today's society. Can you imagine anyone in the 70's daring to say such a thing?
