On Wednesday morning I read a letter to my local paper that implied using gun violence against Congress and President Obama. Here's a section of
that letter:
No One Above Law Of The U.S. Constitution
<snip...>
These are examples of those in power believing they are above the law. When leaders ignore the law, the people will remember that they are the true law and power in this country.
Those who shred the Constitution will be swept from power by constitutional means, including the Second Amendment, which was included in the Constitution if ever “again” needed for this specific purpose.
I submitted a harsh response to the paper in the form of my own letter. I followed up by calling to complain directly to the editor. He suggested I rework the letter to address the original author and promised to publish it. Surely enough, checking the newspaper's website early this morning reveals that my letter will be run in Sunday's paper!
Here it is, (scroll down):
Daily News Unwise To Print Chilling Letter
In light of the recent murders of George Tiller and a guard at the National Holocaust Museum by domestic extremists, I’m forced to question the wisdom of The Daily News in publishing Carroll Cawyer’s letter “No one above law of the U.S. Constitution” (The Daily News, June 25).
Cawyer’s reference to the use of “Second Amendment” rights against the government, after spinning conspiracy theories involving Congress and President Obama, was chilling.
Citizens of Washington, D.C., don’t, as Cawyer suggested, have a voting representative in Congress. He also failed to give the whole story involving the firing of Inspector General Gerald Walpin.
If Cawyer is interested in finding honest reasons to be concerned over the “shredding” of our Constitution, I suggest he look no further than the administration of George W. Bush.

No way, the Sunday paper! I've written letters the the editor before but never had one go out on the biggest day of the week! I'm pumped, and I predict a future full of letters to the editor now.
So what do you think?
