So how does a Goverenor who refuses stimulus money
to help schools in his own state 'get away' with "i will repay the money spent on trips'? Is this the new Sarah Palin model. You claim to be conservative but you spend taxpayers money on yourself and your family and when caught you repay the money????

WTF!!!!! Don't people resign for impropriety anymore?

<snip>
South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford, facing pressure to resign over an extramarital affair, said on Thursday he would repay state funds he used for an official trip to Argentina during which he met his mistress.

Sanford's move came as questions mounted whether he had used public funds to pursue a yearlong affair with the woman.

His admission of marital infidelity during a tearful news conference on Wednesday likely ended chances he might be a Republican contender for the U.S. presidency in 2012.

The governor said he participated in a U.S. Commerce Department trade mission a year ago to Brazil and Argentina.

"While the purpose of this trip was an entirely professional and appropriate business development trip, I made a mistake while I was there in meeting with the woman who I was unfaithful to my wife with," Sanford said in a statement.
------------
Bullshit - you had been carrying your internet affair for years as you said and you went there to meet your mistress.

Fuck you Marc Sanford.

2. I was talking to a Republican client, yesterday...He said we should forgive Sanford and...
...trust him to do the right thing.

I told him: :"So his own Wife can't trust him and you want me...a stranger, to ??"

6. LOL! there was a republican lady on msnbc yesterday who was
talking about how hard it is for sanford right now and it's unfair for us to be doing this to him right now. She said something about forgiveness.... and all i could think was wow!! if it had been a dem it would be this big breach of public trust and the person should resign immediately.... how can we trust them if they can't even be faithful to their wife or something. but with these republicans.... somehow they are the victim.

i will say that a guy cheating on his wife should be between him and his wife. but it does show a hypocrisy since he claimed to have some level of moral superiority and to concern himself with the rest of us. The affair itself isn't the issue, really. It's irresponsibility.... taking off without telling anyone THAT you are going much less WHERE you are going. the man could have been kidnapped or injured for all anyone knew!! then to lie to your staff about where you are.... and using taxpayer funded trips to go have your affair are really troublesome.... the affair is not the issue.... or really shouldn't be beyond the hypocrisy and credibility on anything related to marriage and regulating one's ideas of marriage.

4. They are all fucking hypocrites
Self absorbed hypocrites. When they get caught with their hand in the cookie jar, they promise to pay it back.

Question is, does anyone check to make sure they did?

Once the cameras are turned off, who knows.

8. I keep thinking of that poor girl in that horrible school there
who, despite the terrible conditions in which she had to learn, had not yet given up.

And Sanford wanted to deny his state the stimulus funds she needs to attend a decent public school, but not those he needs to boink his honey. And then he says he'll repay the state, so--all better!

Whenever I start to feel as if his privacy has been invaded too much by the release of those emails (which are really not all that well written--please!), I remember that. And any sympathy I might have felt vanishes.

9. "i will repay the money spent on trips"
Yeah damn right you will. And he should probably face charges for misappropriation of funds or fraud or embezzlement or whatever. Resignation should be automatic followed by a complete audit of all his expenses while he was governor.
