So much for any Political Discussion...
Edited on Thu Jun-25-09 11:18 PM by Kittycat
#CNNFAIL comes to mind. The entire MSM along with the newsweb has turned in to prolonged episode of entertainment news thanks to wacko-jacko's death. I guess there aren't more important things going on in the world (or our country) at the moment. And since there isn't - did you hear that Jon & Kate are getting a divorce?

1. Kinda like DU...
The economy is still tanking, we're still involved in 2 wars, and if you can wade through the MJ threads you MIGHT find a thread about Sanford screwing an Argentinian...

10. ??
If that was sarcasm, read my post again.

My point was that the closest we're coming to political discussion today is a topic that has nothing to do with politics.

15. Sorry, I obviously misread and was quick on the trigger
I thought you were saying that Sanford should be something that we talk about. My mistake.

21. Bite me.
How about we talk about all the families of little kids he molested and paid off? Is that newsworthy to you? We're going on day 2 of fucking wall-to-wall coverage. I'm not saying they shouldn't mention it at all, maybe even dedicate a small segment to him - but is he worthy of putting the halts on reporting everything going on in this world? Fuck no. And what we're seeing here is a prime example of why people in this country care more about entertainment news, than the real issues in this country and abroad.

Food for the masses of ignorant people.

11. Agreed
Agreed.

I don't know what rock you are living under if you don't realize this is the most crazy news-worthy celebrity death since Princess Diana.

A man who has had this much influence all over the world deserves coverage like this. You must be with the guy who thinks this news should be as important as the newest John & Kate Plus 8 drama...

9. This too shall pass
When I was 18, I was the third car in a three car pile-up on the Bayshore Freeway in San Mateo, CA.

The woman who caused the crash decided the best way to let traffic merge onto the freeway was to come to a complete stop in the slow lane.

I was later told "five more miles of speed and you wouldn't have legs." My car was totalled.

As I stood on the side of the freeway, my nose bleeding and Highway Patrol officers taking down accident reports and tow trucks hauling shatters cars off to the repair shops, a yuppie couple...white, expensive car, maybe in their early 30s...slowed down to look at the carnage, and they were pointing and laughing their ASSES off.

I can still see their faces, decades later.

That's the world. Some of it, not all of it. And some of it likes to talk about celebrities who have passed on, whether we are in two wars and have a crap economy or not.

Tomorrow is a new day. Today, the world is gonna do what the world's gonna do. Take a walk, read a book, watch a movie, enjoy a sunset.

This too shall pass.

:patriot:

12. Oh shut up and just hide the threads. Or create new ones about politics.
I think its unrealistic for people to expect the MSM or people not talk about this. We'll back to politics in due time. Its not going anywhere.

17. The men in the shadows are pleased
it is news... worthy of the bottom of the hour... except when it first broke, or TMZ 24\7

What else are we missing?

But hey, this is the US, where the media and the people willfully go into this every time... like a Pavlovian response

Turned the TV off, well sort off, re-watching F-911

Before that I watched Control Room.

People should watch this and buy a clue at the clue factory.

By the way, Orwell is also pleased, or writhing in his grave.

Something about keeping people on the edge of starvation.

Oh and for the rest of the crowd, yes, RIP both Fawcet and Jackson... now can we get back to news?

18. The death of Micheal Jackson
does seem to be drawing attention away from other issues at critical times in the debate. Although it makes sense why his death is covered on the news, there are lots of things going on.

Health care rallies, justice rallies. debates in congress, international events, and many more issues.

I sorta think that while we mourn for the dead, we should keep fighting for the living.
