Remembering a friend
I broke out a bottle of Crown Royal that a friend gave me tonite. It's sweet! The occasion is the passing of a friend who died of a massive heart attack on Saturday. He was 58. He was a Viet Nam veteran, and a businessman. He was a good soul. He had a construction business that was struggling, but he was getting by. He was generous and quick to let you know when he opposed your point of view, but you could tell he was good people. We weren't best friends or anything, but I suspect he didn't have a lot of close friends. He seemed to keep things to himself. Not a lot of people will notice his passing, but I will. He spoke with a very raspy, low toned voice. He had scruples. He was one of the good ones, I will miss him.

Honestly, I don't know his political affilliation. He could go either way. Most of the people who live here are republicans, but nonetheless, he was a friend. I know we all have to go sometime. I've accepted my mortality, and I realize that dying is easy, it's living that's the hard part of life. I suspect he did too. God rest his soul. He earned it.

5. Marking the passing of a friend
One of the most human of rituals.

Strength to you. Take one of his qualities into your soul, that he might always be with you.

7. A fine tribute to someone who obviously touched you deeply.
Sometimes a person's political affiliation doesn't matter. I'd like to think that I can look past that. My friends and I never ever talk politics. We spend our time together remembering things we did together in elementary school, junior high, and high school.

If your friend is somewhere looking at his life in retrospect, he'll be happy to know that at least one person he knew respected him for who he was without regard to what he may have believed.

10. This is why I love this place
You can bitch and moan about politics, or you can post something more solemn, and people understand. We've all been there.
I've polished off about half of that bottle of Crown, been through two Pink Floyd CDs and a couple of Neil Young Cds, and I'm ready to call it a night. One last toast to all you wonderful souls!

Thanks, and good night!

11. I've let a lot of friendships die in the past 8 years
for obvious reasons.

But in a lot of ways I miss these friends. I'd hate to see some of these people die, or die myself, without them knowing that. I'm glad I clicked on this post

Maybe I can renew some friendships before it's too late. If not I'll at least try.

Thanks for posting this.

12. I'll lift a drink to him as well.
Good friends are one of the things that make life worth living.

"Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art... It has no survival value; rather is one of those things that give value to survival."
- C. S. Lewis

Godspeed to your friend.
