UPDATE: Imus apologizes for calling the Rutger's womens basketball a racist term
http://mediamatters.org/items/200704060003

Imus apologized for "nappy-headed hos" remark

After reportedly defending his April 4 description of the Rutgers University women's basketball team, which is comprised of eight African-American and two white players, as "nappy-headed hos," on the April 6 edition of MSNBC's Imus in the Morning, host Don Imus apologized for the remark. Imus called his comments "insensitive and ill-conceived," adding that "t was completely inappropriate, and we can understand why people were offended." He further called the comments "thoughtless and stupid." Media Matters for America noted Imus' initial comments at the time.

According to an April 5 article on Imus' comments on the WNBC website, "Imus said people should relax and not worry about 'some idiot comment meant to be amusing.' "

From the April 6 edition of MSNBC's Imus in the

IMUS: Want to take a moment to apologize for an insensitive and ill-conceived remark we made the other morning referring to the Rutgers women's basketball team. It was completely inappropriate, and we can understand why people were offended. Our characterization was thoughtless and stupid, so, and we're sorry.

1. Wow... an actual apology. That's rare
Mostly people say, "I'm sorry people were offended"; I'm glad to see somebody say, "that was stupid and insensitive and I'm sorry"

2. He said 'remark' - implying what he said.. Since he is speaking he

must mean him. But, he says "WE". Why? Bernard the bigot also says sewer thing, so Imus must mean both of them, but he only references 'remark', not remarks?

What a weasel to say 'we' if he means "I".
If he means "I", where is the apology from Bernard.

He is a one of the truest bigots in this country and he has Russert Dodd Leiberman Mitchell and tons of well known people calling in glorifying Imus along the way.

Imus and team are bigots.
Imus and team work for MSNBC - GE and Microsoft
Therefore,
MSNBC - GE and Microsoft are all bigots.

Imus and team are bigots.
Imus and team have celebrities calling their show.
Therefore,
The calling in celebrities are bigots.

4. Apology NOT accepted!
Imus' show passed its expiration date long ago. The rationale for his continued presence on the airwaves is a mystery as profound as the grand unified theory of gravitational attraction or the Xian Trinity.

IMO, he deserves NO pass for mouthing racist blather over the public airwaves - no matter how much syrup he drizzled over this so-called apology (no doubt mandated by MSNBC top management). In fact, it may be the proper time to bury MSNBC in a deluge of complaints about his grossly inappropriate behavior; with a fark-up of this magnitude, it may actually work this time.

6. Another apology is in order
this morning he called the British captives
"a bunch of tea-sucking surrender monkeys"

Maybe in NBC canned his ass he wouldn't have
to apologize so much... same goes for his stooges.

Any other TV personality would have been fired for this if they didn't.

14. Well,
Edited on Fri Apr-06-07 03:35 PM by Bronyraurus
He is probably a racist, but he indeed was a cop and for many years had the highest arrest and conviction rate of any NYC detective. He is highly decorated. Of course, he talks like an absolute troglodyte.

He also had a cameo as the officer who arrested Henry Hill in Goodfellas!

17. That's a good question
Legend has it that he solved his most famous crime (the rape of a nun in Harlem) with the help of the NY underworld, whom he befriended...

Who the hell knows?

13. That Old Fossil should retire.
He isn't funny. He contributes precious little to broadcasting. His 'crew' consists of racists like McGuirk and batshit-crazy wingnuts like McCord.

I'll say it again - he was funnier when he was drunkenly pissing in phone booths. He should have taken the hint and retired after Stern delivered the first ass-kicking and stole his morning audience.

Out of the way, old man. Go sit around on your 'ranch.' That's about all you're good for any more.

He's an ass, but I admire his willingness to say so.

19. Screw him and his apology. What he said was disgraceful.
And these offensive remarks are becoming a regularity on his show. Surely MSNBC can do better than this sicko in the morning time slot.

20. When he resigns from NBC and promises to never do it again I'll accept the apology.
And, he should offer to clean the Rutgers University women's basketball team locker room and wash their gym clothes for a season.

victim impact statements are of little value, nor should that congenital idiot's.
The only reason for such racial animus can be one of two-either he always talks that way to himself and his intimates or he was being deliberately repulsive.
Either way, he does not deserve to be on my airways, let alone appearing on msnbc.
I hope everyone has let msnbc know that their recent rise in ratings is taking a hit and with that half wit still being on their time, even Keith Olbermann can't continue to drag them up.

Dump the idiot hypocrite!
