That early version of the cover story seemed a bit of a head scratcher to me, for that reason.

Just sayin'!

1. Especially if you do it through Argentina
That's quite the detour.

2. People "day hike" it all the time. Of course, it doesn't run through Buenos Aires. NT

3. I see a new euphemism. "I'm going to go hike the Appalachian Trail" (wink wink)

5. The AT is a great place for hikes of indeterminate length
Less crowded than national and state parks. Just pick a segment and hike as far as you want.

You should try it some day.

14. It was a scream!!!
I am listening to IMUS on the computer right now, and the toady sidekick, Charles, is reading the Governor's romantic emails in a lusty, porn-ish voice. I'm laughing myself silly! I suppose I shouldn't take such amusement at the discomfiture of an asshole who abandons his wife and kids -- and does it on Father's Day, no less-- but I just cannot help it.

This idiot thought he was Presidential timber? That's the funniest part of the piece!

7. My theory is he told someone
and they either weren't listening carefully or he mumbled, but that when asked it came out as:

"He said he was going... oh shoot, what did he say? It was a long name, and it started witn an "A"... "

"Appalachia?"

"Um... yeah, yeah, I think so..."

13. Like everything else people try to out do each other on the AT
Average is about 6 months, I think speed hikers have done it in 2.
