4 kids sicced pit bull on women in SeaTac, cops say
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2009371116_pitbull23m.html
Four children between the ages of 11 and 15 used a pit bull to attack two women in SeaTac on Sunday evening after one of the victims questioned the group's treatment of the dog, according to the King County Sheriff's Office. The girl, who is from Burien, and the boys — ages 11, 12 and 13 — all from White Center, were taken into custody by sheriff's deputies. All four were released to their parents and the dog was seized by King County Animal Control, said county sheriff's spokesman John Urquhart.

A 63-year-old Seattle woman was driving in the 13300 block of Des Moines Memorial Drive when she saw the group of three boys and a girl repeatedly kicking the dog at about 6:30 p.m., according to Urquhart. She asked the children if they might need some help, but a 15-year-old girl told her to mind her own business.

The woman told KING-TV the girl opened the passenger door of her car and attacked her. "She grabbed me by the hair. She pulled me across the passenger seat by the hair," said the woman, who has asked not to be identified. The woman said she tried to run away but that the girl kept chasing her and hitting her. Then, one of the boys allegedly ran toward her with the pit bull, which belongs to the girl's family.

"The dog started biting me on my wrist and my left leg," the woman told KING-TV. It was not clear whether the woman required treatment at a hospital. Urquhart said the group was abusing the dog, named Snaps, to intentionally make it violent when the first victim intervened....(mroe@link)

That poor dog and WTF about the kids.

1. The parents need to be thrown into prison if this is the children they create.
Those children are probably going to become criminals if nothing is done to change the situation.

4. Hmm. Parents -> Kids -> Dog
What the kids are to the dog, the parents are to the kids, in all likelihood. At least, it's hard to imagine that a 15-year-old girl could become the mindless monster described here without "training" by the parents, just as the dog was abused by the kids to make it an assault weapon.

And these kids were "released to the parents?"

16. I won't rule out the possibility that the kids have been abused by the parents, but
it's also possible that they learned this type of behavior from peers. However, it doesn't matter much at this point. Without some type of intervention, these kids will probably go on to bigger things.

6. As horrible as it sounds...
...I think a Taser would have been warranted for the kids in this instance.

Not advocating cruelty to children, here - they need to be placed in a secure, stable environment where this violent behavior can be chelated out of them. But this is clearly an issue where self-defense was warranted.

NOW and likely away from their "parents" as well.

8. summer + gangs of unsupervised teens = assaults
every summer in Cincy during the 80's & 90's, meeting a group of teens on the street could get your ass beat. it's a good argument for year-round school.

this time the difference is the dog - i'd say prosecute them for assault with a deadly weapon - a pit is the same as a knife, brass knuckles, a gun.

9. Poor Snaps - he looks like a dog that's been accostomed to being kicked.
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/ABPub/zoom/html/2009371117.html

Poor guy. I hope he gets a second chance, but he probably won't. It's not his fault he was raised by total assholes.

Stupid fucking people. This looks like a classic example of people who shouldn't be allowed to have animals OR children.

And the poor second woman who was attacked for presumably, trying to help?

"A 41-year-old Seattle woman who saw the first attack followed the group to nearby North SeaTac Park. There, the girl realized the group was being followed and she head-butted the second woman before punching her in the head and body, Urquhart said.

The three boys accompanying the girl provoked the dog to bite the woman on her head and face while the girl assaulted her, he said. The dog also bit the woman severely on both arms, leaving the flesh of her forearm flayed and the bone visible, Urquhart said.

The 41-year-old woman, who was more seriously injured, was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where her condition was not immediately known.

The Burien girl likely will face felony assault charges after attacking the two women, Urquhart said.

The girl had blood on her shoes, Urquhart said, and she also was injured by the dog while she attacked the second woman, but the nature of her injuries was unclear.

The girl also injured her foot from repeatedly kicking the second victim and needed medical attention, Urquhart said."

12. Interesting. A 15-year-old girl and 3 younger boys, ages 11, 12 and 13.

The dog belonged to the girl's family. I'd say that girl deserves some adult punishment and the three boys a lot of therapy on top of some juvenile justice.

It seems apparent that the age differential indicates some "power-tripping" and a sociopathic personality disorder ... and I doubt it's treatable.

17. I hope they don't punish poor Snaps
Maybe Best Friends or one of the big league rescues could take him for rehab. BF has a good reputation for it -- they rehabbed Vick's worst victims.

I hope they throw the book at the girl's mother. $5K or jail for unlicensed dog let loose w/o muzzle. Give her the $5K please -- spend it on rehabbing the poor dog.

Get the girl out of that "home," and the 3 boys too. What a bunch of winners. Not.

allowed to own any animals, especially dogs for a very long time. Hope both Snaps and the kids can be rehabilitated. And I hope the two women who were only trying to do the right thing recover. How friggin' horrible!
