3. If he was hiking on federal land or a federally owned trail, it sure as hell IS our business.
If he wants to have a super secret private life, he needs to leave PUBLIC office, lol.

But seriously, if this is a person who opposes gay rights or women's medical privacy rights (he IS a Repuke, correct?), then he has no right to personal privacy of any kind either.

14. What exactly was so important
that you couldn't do without him for a few days?

And a person who doesn't agree with you doesn't deserve rights? On what basis then do you deserve rights?

11. I am a Democrat, and he is a potential repuke nominee for Pres.
Now is the time to hurt his effort. Keep the story in the news, and make it a question of confidence.

This is a gift for us.

26. And, we have the ability to deal with them all. You know, walk and chew
gum. I don't pass on a chance to hit a potential repuke nominee. Especially one as bad as 'No Stimulus' Sanford.

I wonder why you are defending him so much?

Im just wondering how he impacts your life. If you were from SC Id say you have every right to be upset...pass judgement etc but it seems to me that nothing he does affects your life...you dont contribute to his salary so it seems that this is just busy bodiness.

31. I am a political junkie. It matters to me. Shaping the story,
the debates starts now. He will very much be my business if/when he throws his hat in the ring. Now is the time to define every potential candidate. We will be like flies on shit with each flub, gaffe, scandal or erratic behavior any of the potential repuke candidates make.

If you can't stomach this criticism, you may want to avoid this place when the campaigns take off. It will be brutal.

32. Could have fooled me
You've spent a lot of valuable time and bandwidth telling the rest of us it's none of our business, does not affect us, etcetera.

Ever been to South Carolina? Did you know that Sanford turned down the stimulus funds DESPITE the fact that there are 178 bridges in South Carolina rated "inadequate"? In other words, would you want anyone you loved crossing those bridges? Here's another argument of why we should all care: South Carolina's standards for public schools? "Minimally adequate". There are children in that state who attend school in a structurally unsafe building, not to mention the difficulty of learning in those conditions.

This affects ALL OF US, whether you like it or not.

Sanford should have been out of office for just the stimulus bullshit. This stunt? It should be played and replayed on every channel until he is seen for exactly what he is: Unfit to hold office. Unfit to run for the Presidency of the United States.

38. Three words: "Potential presidential candidate"
I hate the permanent campaign as much as anyone, but it's part of an ongoing pattern: a Great White Hope emerges (normally, I'd avoid using such a racist phrase, but it seems appropriate for today's Republican Party) that the Freeper base that now controls the Party falls in love with, and then gets revealed to be a complete basket case. If it continues, the GOP will run out of potential candidates and be reduced to printing "SOME GUY WHO SHOWED UP AT ONE OF OUR MEETINGS ONCE '12" bumper stickers.

44. He potentially has a massive impact on my life...
because of his presence on a very short list of Repukes who might run against President Obama in 2012. Therefore, I want to ruin as many Repukes' chances of being elected President as I possibly can.

I want these fuckers to be so hard up for candidates they start looking at mayors...unfortunately for them, I went through the list of the 25 largest American cities and, once you get past New York's mayor (who couldn't get elected president), the next seven mayors are all Democrats. You gotta get all the way to San Diego, in ninth place, to find a Republican mayor. Somehow I think a sitting Democratic president can trounce the mayor of the ninth-largest American city.

2. Disagree strongly...
Look, I don't like Sanford, but I refuse to begrudge anybody the joy of hiking to clear the mind. I've erased stress by taking a long weekend to hike MANY times, and my wife rarely knows exactly where I will be when I go. All I need is a pack, a flyrod, a compass, and a need to escape.

Besides, the quotes coming out now make it sound like at least a few of his staffers, and probably his wife, did know roughly where he was. The real question now should be whether they did anything illegal by not divulging that. If the police tracked his cellphone, they had obviously launched a formal investigation into his whereabouts. If his staffers didn't reveal those whereabouts to the state police while they were investigating, that may be a crime.

since they can't get their stories straight, I am perfectly willing to call bullshit cover story no matter what they say.

And in what world does an executive, a state GOVERNOR, just take off?

He didn't notify the Lieutenant Governor and his wife at one point said she didn't know where he was.

23. I think the problem lies in the fact that he is a politician and public figure. If you or I take a
day or two to disappear, it's not a big deal. But neither of us are running states. When someone at his level and with his position disappears, even if a couple people know where he is, it becomes a concern. He wasted the taxpayers' money by causing a police investigation to be launched. They can't just stand by and assume he'll return to his duties when he feels like it. They have to make sure he wasn't kidnapped or assassinated. If you or I don't show up for work, we'd be fired and that would be that. Only if family members or friends started to worry would anything further happen.

25. According to another SC repuke he pulls these "capers" all the time
Governors are supposed to turn the state government over to the Lt. Gov if they are going to be out of state and/or unable to be in charge in an emergency.

The guy's a flake. It has nothing to do with hiking -- he acted irresponsibly.

And sorry I think it's weird that your wife & kids don't know where the fuck you are on Father's day!
