The difference between the typical Freeper and those of us to the left of center...
is that we, meaning lefties, demand that politicians who win us over in the primary and then make it to the show remember where they came from. From day one, we have held the current standard bearer for the Democratic Party to his pledges, promised and proclamations he made in order to woo us.

A Freeper, on the other hand, pledges fealty to the lord and master whom the powers that be deign is the candidate. No matter what this man does, he can do no wrong.

In other words, it seems we are a collection of individuals while the freeper is more like a bee in a hive.

I find it refreshing, while frustrating, that the people here expect more from Obama than we are receiving. I too am frustrated with the way Obama is standing above the frey, carefully proceeding, always searching for the bi-partisan solution that we know is never going to be there. That is inevitable when one party strives to make things better, looks to the future with hope while the other party always, always, looks to stop progress for the people while showering all sorts of rewards for those who all ready have money and power.

Democrats tend to spread the wealth and responsibility around while Republicans consolidate power and privilege to the few.

1. I actually disagree with your second paragraph...
Edited on Mon Jun-22-09 09:54 AM by LeftishBrit
on the grounds that RW-ers seem very prone to attacking their existing candidates for not being RW enough! E.g. we lefties may think of McCain as a right-wing twit; but many righties seemed to think that he was a dangerous moderate, who could only be tolerated, if at all, because he might die in office and allow God's Representative on Earth to become president.

Republicans always seem to be trying to dump their moderate members in primaries; e.g. St Ronnie made a very serious insurrection against President Ford. It can be somewhat similar here, though it tends to be the xenophobic, anti-Europe right, more than the religious right. But for example, when John Major referred in exasperation to 'the bastards', he did not mean the Labour Opposition, but the more right-wing Tory MPs who were trying hard to undermine him.

2. But they never question the moves when their annointed saint is in the Oval office...

8. Exactly. The second paragraph is certainly not true. They hated McCain.

4. Obama *IS* doing what he promised... it just isn't in line with what YOU want

You heard what you WANTED to hear instead of what he ACTUALLY said.

He was not for single-payer during the primaries.... but you wanted to believe he was.

He was announcing he would ramp up in Afghanistan while drawing down in Iraq... but you wanted to believe he'd end BOTH wars.

Too many people THINK they heard something in his platform that they actually didn't.

Don't get pissed off at Obama because you didn't pay attention to what he was saying.

6. He wasn't my choice, but when it came to Clinton or Obama, I preferred Obama...
It's not the single payer, which I find curious about how you were able to cull that from what I wrote, it's the people he decided to surround himself with. Retreads from the Clinton Years.

Now I wasn't expecting Kucinich to be named to be named to the cabinet, but I felt sure that Larry Summers and Timmy G were not going to be in charge of the economic future of the country.

5. There is one huge difference
Democrats develop ideas; Republicans develop conspiracy theories.

7. Maybe I am less disappointed with Obama than some because I always considered him to be
fairly centrist. That said, I don't have a huge problem with that, in that he is representing the entire country, not just me, as much as it pains me to see him not supporting things I think we need.

It's a tough call. I don't want to give him a free pass, but he's also not doing a horrible job, despite him pissing me off more than once. I'll give him some more time to get the job done - a job we all knew would be tough - but I also know that we need to remind him and our Congressional Reps and Senators that they work for us, and that if they ignore us too much their jobs are at stake.
