The Iranian Demonstrations and the United States
a study of contrasts.

Iran is a young country, we are not that young anymore.

The kids (and others in Iran) are willing to die for whatever they want (and lord knows I THINK I have an idea of what they want and the words don't necessarily mean the same, but I am sure I am not an expert). We, on the other hand. are happy to bitch and moan but really not put our lives on the line.

Well folks, you want health care? You want investigations? I say take a page not only of very current Iranian history but US History. You got the 40 hour week, right? It took people hit with truncheons and people shot and killed to get that forty hour week. The same goes for many other worker's rights, including, as weakened as it is, the right to organize.

You got civil rights and an African American President sits in the WH right? It took people bitten by police dogs, fire hosed by fire fighters and over all beaten and a few dead on the way.

Oh and the storied American Revolution took MANY dead as well.

Women's rights, and the vote... took millions to march on them streets, and at times face the cops. Oh an it took about two generations until that was finally achieved, try to understand this.

So it is time to get that head out of you know where and realize... you want something hard enough... just emailing, calling and being good citizens will get you nothing. It will take doing what we have done in OUR past... and what you are seeing in Tehran. If we are lucky we will be able to do it without the tear gas canister and the tasers and even bullets, plastic or otherwise.

But then again, this country does not have what it takes anymore. I saw it in 2004. People screamed on the web, but where were you? Oh and the press will not cover it... free fucking clue. They didn't cover labor actions either, or for that matter civil rights. All that was spread in the beginning through the citizenry through the means of the day... and yes, the press finally covered civil rights in the south... but only when it became impossible to ignore. we have tweeter, they had mimmeograph machines... or even less.

So get a clue, and get your walking shoes... oh never mind. Idol is on tonight, and it is far more comfortable to bitch and moan. I no longer expect the too comfortable, IPOD connected, hipster Muricans to actually sacrifice for anything.

1. I take it you mean "Iran has a young population"
as a country, I think they claim to be the oldest in the world.

3. Obviously that's what the OP means, as it would make no sense under the other interpretation.

5. Well, it might have, since they mentioned the history of each country
However, they have confirmed they mean the population.

10. and civil rights also , while we do need to be more aware i think a better comparison is to France
where people get out and protest and demand better things from the government.

11. Why I wrote the storied Ameircan Revolution
granted... there are days I wonder if the brits kept their cool in Boston in 1774 if we would have... gone there. That was the trigger... and yes, people died that day, a few...
