Nice picture and article about Hillary Clinton's Iowa visit

snip

Well, I'm Hillary Clinton," she started off in the gymnasium of a high school in eastern Des Moines. "I'm running for president, and I'm in it to win it."

"I know there are people who either say or wonder, would we ever elect a woman president? And I don't think we'll know until we try -- and I'm going to try, and I'm going to try with your help," Mrs. Clinton said to some of her loudest applause. "We are good at breaking barriers and going places where now one has gone before."

"There will be more stories about my clothes and hair than some of the people running against me," she said to laughter, before adding that she expected to face a "double standard" at times.

snip

Clinton advisers said on Friday night that they expected about 800 people, but so many people arrived that another gym was opened to accommodate the overflow crowd, who were greeted personally by Mrs. Clinton before she began the town hall. ( my note: they said 3000 came)

4. Was Iraq discussed? Doesn't matter...it's inevitable.
7 more soldiers killed in Iraq today.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16839573/

With the power and money behind the numbers, it is inevitable.

I know someone who drew 15,000 in the summer of 2003, then 11,000 the same week. The difference....not the power or the money.

7. Nobody told those people to come

BTW, Hillary was asked about Iraq in every TV interview she gave after announcing. There are, however, many other issues on the minds of voters. Sorry if their concerns don't comform to yours.

10. Oh, I care about other issues greatly.
I think you know that if you read my posts. However, today when her interview not talking about Iraq stopped coverage of the peace march...then I think it is right to ask.

I am not critically of her personally, I am critical that Iraq is not an issue. She avoids it like the plague.

7 more soldiers died today.

11. FWIW
New York Sen. Hillary Clinton said today at the outset of her first presidential campaign stop in Iowa that she would not have voted to allow President Bush to use military force in Iraq, had she known the war's main justifications would be proven to be unfounded.

"There are no do-overs. I wish there were," Clinton told the Iowa Democratic Party's central committee in Des Moines, her first public stop on a two-day swing through the lead-off caucus state.

I have said on numerous occasions that, if we knew then what we know now, there never would have been a vote, the Congress never would have voted to give the president authority," she told the group. "And I would not have voted to give the president authority."

17. People's lives are filled with do-overs....with change, with starting over.
That is how life is. That was a careless off the cuff remark, and there must be "do-overs" in Iraq.

Our soldiers are in effect hostages there now, and this government does not even talk about it.

We have to have a do-over there. We have to do something, not let them be targets anymore.

13. Good post.
The fact that she is hiding Iraq in her public addresses to seem more centrist is huge. I speak for only one voter -- me -- and I am deeply concerned that she is so unwillingly to espouse a position taken by the roughly 70% of the population.

14. The peace march was over. People were leaving. THEN
C-SPAN started her coverage.

She talked about Iraq when she was on Keith Olberman those two nights last week.

5. Great to see our war-neutral candidate found something to do today.
I mean, something other than take a big stand against the occupation of Iraq:

8. As I've listened to the veiled critism of the anti-war rally on MSNBC this afternoon and heard the
announcemnt of 7 more dead soldiers, I've been thinking about Hillary's Des Moines "forum." I've heard her out this time, but she will not have my support right now. That she would not address the question about the war was bad enough. That she will not come out against the deaths of so many bothers me greatly.

12. If you're concerned about her stance send her a message
I just sent her one...

I just want to say it's exciting to see you "explore" the possibilities of a Presidential bid, however, when are you going to start talking about the tough issues?

For example, the war in Iraq, the infringement of our civil liberties as pertaining to the Patriot Act (and the sequel) and what seems to be the erosion of our electoral process by denying American citizens a verifiable paper trail? I'm sure you've seen the recent news that 2 people in Ohio were found guilty in tampering with a 2004 recount. This cannot be tolerated!

Lastly, do you plan to address the "purchase of politicians" by big business? There are far too many corporations influencing big government and it seems that politicians seem more embolden to their big money contributors than their constituency.

Thank you for wanting to have a conversation with America but I hope we'll find it's not a one-sided conversation where the message is only what is easy to discuss and ignoring the big issues that continue to lead to the corruption of the US government.

Maybe if she gets enough of these messages, she'll have a "conversation" about them.

15. I don't support Hillary, but I don't really dislike her either. I think she will be a stronger
candidate than some people here think.
