OK, contradicting my prior post on gun control, here is one rationale:

Imagine you are a cardiologist receiving a patient having a heart attack. His heart is shot, and he is an unworthy candidate for transplantation, but you can shove a stent into his blocked carotid artery for now.

He's pleased. But he's not going to lay off the dairy products and trans fats, or quit smoking and drinking whole fat milk...

That is how I see legislation of things that are "not good for us," and that includes guns, taxes on soda, junk food, fast food, you name it.

I do not oppose the ideology of this, but merely the reality of it.

You cannot force people to change in the heart. We need programs that enlighten human beings from the ground up, so that we care about our bodies, care about our morals, care about others, and do the best we can to be the best we can.

As proud as I am to be in the same party as this amazing human being who is our President, President Obama, there is no miracle he or any legislator can perform that can turn a bad person into a good person.
