Time to start burning up those phone lines and faxes to your senators.

2. Public option version will be released on friday
This is just a placeholder bill designed to meet certain requirements in terms of timing and whatnot.

5. Yeah, go ahead and believe that if you want
Watch.

On Friday the Public Option will be released with the most odious trigger possible, meaning the Public Option is DOA.

9. I haven't read the whole thing yet but there's no public option either from
what I can tell from scanning it.

10. Read what I said.
This is a placeholder bill. The real starting point of the bill will be released Friday and will contain language for a public option.

Details at SEIU's blog:

15. If that's true why couldn't they just put it in this placeholder?

"There will be an option to buy into Medicare for those who don't want privatized insurance." How hard is it to say something like that?

btw your link doesn't load up for me.

8. This is that Dodd thing, right?
You have to release the bill for comment before you release it for markup?

3. Complete bullshit. It reminds me of the Republicans "budget proposal" which
was a whole lot of nothing.

There is nothing specific in here about anything. They apparently just like to reiterate the same talking points over and over in hopes some will be fooled that they have actually done something.

How disappointing.

4. there is a reason nothing is in this bill
it is a pro forma release, designed to make certain legislative time tables.

7. Yeah, but my take is that it's mostly tightening some legislation on the
private health care industry. There is no real change here but business as usual. We have just today and tomorrow to let them know this isn't enough before they debate it on Thursday and the real legislation begins.

11. *sigh*
this is a bullet point summary. there is no bill to discuss yet.

There will be a more detailed version later this week, after discussion, which will contain several pieces that have been held back from these bullet points.

13. It's still an outline of how they want to direct the conversation. It won't
be talked about unless there are more protests and people arrested in the meetings.

17. Dodd explains his reasoning for holding back the public option segments
now, his reasons are dumb, but they indicate public option sections do exist. What's more, it's Kennedy's bill, so you know they will be in there eventually. And SEIU is reporting that those sections will be released by week's end. I don't know what else to tell you. This is how they do things: in order to meet a filing deadline, they throw together all the noncontroversial stipulations of the bill.

12. I'm not sure the final one will be any better. I could've written more and better
bullet points in five minutes without all the intro posturing. I'm just sick of all talk and no action.

I think they're playing us so that when the public option pops up we'll think they're actually doing something for us (and not the insurance companies) and stop calling about single payer.

21. Let's see what happens at the hearing on Thursday, although I don't expect
much. Then it's torches and pitchforks time. In the meantime you have a day or so to let your senators know what you want to hear from them on Thursday. Tell them that making demands on the insurance companies to stop some of the abuses they have done with impunity in the past isn't satisfactory or enough. Tell them you want the insurers gone and replaced by Medicare for all.
