arne duncan Threatens States Embrace Charter Schools, Or Else!
Fuck you arne.

http://pressherald.mainetoday.com/newsupdate.php?updates/duncan-maine-at-disadvantage-for-charters-ban

“We want to invest in states that push a reform agenda," Duncan said. Bullshit. What he means is "We want to twist arms in states to make them bend to our will." Substitute "reform agenda" with "privatization agenda," and at least that'd be honest.

Fuck you arne.

1. waddya expect when you get non-educators
to make education policy?

The business of America is business, and that includes education, see.

4. He has got to be up there
and I confess, while I've been unhappy with a lot of Obama's appointments, Duncan is one that has consistently rubbed me the wrong way. Sadly, even if he hadn't picked Duncan, I suspect he would have picked someone just like him. Education is simply a money game at this point, with "education" little more than a sales pitch.

2. No "Race to the Top" funds if you're not charter-friendly.
Sadly, we're right at the front of the line here. Charters everywhere. Most effing white-flight, Core Knowledge, borderline Christian fundie schools in the suburbs. Blech.

6. Arne Duncan is a corrupt piece of shit.
First of all, pretending that using so-called "stimulus" dollars to push his so-called "reform agenda" somehow stimulates the economy is dishonest. To say the least. His "reform agenda" does not create more jobs.

Second, to suggest that "reform" consists of the Obama/Duncan privatization agenda is bullshit.

Duncan lives up to the way one Chicago educator described him: "Privatizer, Union Buster, and Corporate Stooge."

Too bad Obama couldn't find a single educator in the nation to appoint. We might see an actually positive, constructive, authentic "reform agenda" then.

Oh, wait. Perhaps that's WHY we didn't get an actual educator.

We were never guaranteed positive change.

13. If you can't tell,
I am beyond "upset" or "unhappy" with the Obama/Duncan education disaster.

We thought GWB was bad for education. What, exactly, is the difference?

Duncan is Rod Paige on steroids.

9. i posted something last week about his history pushing charter in chicago
& his use of federal "relief" funds to push others into charter from the federal level.

sank like a stone.

lots of people at "DU" don't care or actively push charter.

11. I thought pretty much all states had "embraced charter schools"
to the extent of establishing some and inculding them in the mix of educational offerings.

I'll bet that Sec. Jump Shot really means "substitute charter schools for real public schools, like NOLA has since the Federal Flood". :grr: :banghead: :argh:
