Irked Grassley Tweets Vacationing Obama, "You Got Nerve Sightseeing in Paris"
Sen. Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa) said that President Obama has "nerve" to tell lawmakers that "it's time to deliver" on a health care overhaul while he spent Saturday in Paris.

Grassley, the top Republican on the Finance Committee -- a key panel as Congress considers Obama's demand -- issued two angry text messages on Twitter on Sunday morning as the president wrapped up an overseas tour

Obama used his weekly radio and Internet address Saturday to call on Congress to enact legislation to reform the health-care system.

Grassley responded by texting, "Pres Obama you got nerve while u sightseeing in Paris to tell us 'time to deliver' on health care. We still on skedul/even workinWKEND."

A short time later, Grassley sent, "Pres Obama while u sightseeing in Paris u said 'time to delivr on healthcare' When you are a 'hammer' u think evrything is NAIL I'm no NAIL."

1. Did Grassley ever complain about all those Bush vacation days
I didn't know Obama was required to work on Saturdays and Sundays.
Did this all change on January 20th?

11. If it was Bush in Paris...
Grassley's little tweet would be lost in the news about the thousands protesting his presence, his latest gaffe or his latest "Bring 'Em On" speech. Of course Grassley'd also have been touting the BOLD vision Bush showed those pesky Europeans and Ayrabs.

Be thankful...

3. Sure, of course, why honor the veterans who gave their lives
at Omaha Beach? Saturday was only the 65th Anniversary of that historic event that saved humanity as we know it. Obama's not going would look odd as all the other leaders from that NATO alliance were in attendance.

Grassley, you are a dope.

7. and how dare he do sightseeing while he's there!! at least he was there.
how many vacations did dumbass take!! on OUR dime!! but that was ok. that was just hunky dory. Obama has been working his ass off for how many months. he deserves to take a day and spend time with his family. i'll bet bush figured out a way for US to pay for his family to take a trip, while i am sure obama is footing the bill for his family to be there.

14. After the ceremonies President Obama went to
Notre Dame with his family late afternoon/early evening. Spent the latter part of the evening with his family at the embassy. Early this morning went to the Pompadou Center (sp?) and I believe he was leaving for DC right after that. So, some vacation of 12-15 hours.

Grassley is a dope. Wait, did I already say that??

31. these guys are idiots. and they make me so sick!! when obama gets a ranch
and stays there even after some big calamity... then i might have something to say. give me a break!! when bush was on his numerous vacations, the response from these jerks was that he is always working even on vacation and that he always has access to what he would be doing at the white house. when did that change?? now all of a sudden he can't do anything unless he is at the white house and the president shouldn't be taking vacations.

29. ACtually, almost two years of vacation...
George Bush spent more than a quarter of his tenure on vacation? That inluded 879 days in Crawford, which required more than 77 trips at a cost of about $262,000 per trip (that's the minimum cost for the trip in the big airplane) for a total of approximately $17,400,000. Of course, we should not forget that on August 6, 2001, a CIA officer warned George Bush that "bin Laden is determined to attack in the U.S." probably with airline hijackings. George's response...another month of vacation!

5. Senator Grassley is trying to look "relevent" - the aides who did the tweeting
should have realized that a Senator should - even while tweeting - spell correctly.

Who else here doubts that Grassley does his own tweets?

It's written in netspeak...with the abbreviations, etc.

I doubt Chuck Grassley knows netspeak. Hell, I'm on FB, Twitter (and here!) and I don't
even know it!

It will be interesting to see what my very own Senator Grassley has to say about this...

32. it's him - it's his tweeting style
from Politico in March: http://themodernmajorgeneral.wordpress.com/2009/03/17/politico-covers-chuck-grassleys-twittering/

At first blush, the irascible, frugal, cranky — take your pick — Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) doesn’t seem the type who gladly suffers lobbyists. Recently, upon disagreeing with a Grocery Manufacturers Association lobbyist, the senator wrote a scathing letter about the lobbyist and mailed it directly to the guy’s boss.

However, all that aside, he Twittered — it pains us to say it — in the wee hours of Friday morning: “Attention Ia legislative business lobbyists: I visit w many Repbli can REPs and Sntors. Don’t take ur frends 4granted.U spend all time w Dem.”

33. That was what I thought, but apparently not. Here's a suggestion...
If you're on Twitter, look up his stream and add something in the same spirit, like 'LOL dignity fail'. I find it hilarious that one of the 100 most powerful people in the country thinks the key to success is to imitate a pissy 13 year old.

Mind you, I can't help hoping for '@Grassley LOL I trolled u xxx Preznit'.

27. Are they going to allow him any down time at all?
Will he need their permission every time he takes a few hours off? Will he have to reimburse the government every time his wife and kids come aboard AF1? I don't recall that standard being applied to any president in the past.

I'm starting to wonder if this is subtle race thing: can't have the black president enjoying too much bling bling in the White House, you know. I don't ever recall the Republicans even beating up on Clinton for him taking vacations or off days.
