2. He's kind of a folk hero in the Pacific NW.

The main theory seems to be that he didn't survive the jump from the plane. Some of the $$ from his heist was found in the Columbia or Cowlitz River (can't remember which) years later.

ETA: I found an FBI page about the case.

4. I'd like to think he got away.
I know you're not supposed to praise criminals but after reading about him, I just gotta think "Balls. Brass balls."

5. I think he
was killed when he jumped, and that his remains were later buried under ash from Mt. Saint Helens.

11. Well, he IS still out there...
Not moving. Not necessarily all in the same place, depending on scavengers. But still out there.

10. I've known about it for a long time.
And I've wondered. He either died when he hit ground or got away clean. We may never know.

12. I actually hope that he made the jump and survived...
Planted part of his cash in the river for someone to discover and to cover his tracks and is now on a remote Caribbean island blending in like most other ex-pats.

That's my hope. Most likely he died from the jump. Lots of jetwash off the tail of a 727.

13. He is part of the folklore in the NW
When I lived in Seattle, there used to be a bar named for him - although that went under some years ago. The general consensus was that he did not survive - he was not dressed for it, and the weather conditions when he jumped, etc, were not favorable. For all his balls, he must have not been very bright to think he could pull it off.

More on another legend here, named CatWoman:
