Christian Right pastor 'prays' for Obama's death
A former Southern Baptist Convention officer who on June 2 called the death of abortion provider George Tiller an answer to prayer said later in the day he is also praying "imprecatory prayer" against President Obama.

Wiley Drake, pastor of First Southern Baptist Church in Buena Park, Calif., and former running mate of American Independent Party presidential candidate Alan Keyes, said June 2 on Fox News Radio he didn't understand why people were upset with his comments quoted by Associated Baptist Press from a webcast of his daily radio talk show.

"Imprecatory prayer is agreeing with God, and if people don't like that, they need to talk to God," Drake told syndicated talk-show host Alan Colmes. "God said it, I didn't. I was just agreeing with God."

Asked if there are others for whom Drake is praying "imprecatory prayer," Drake hesitated before answering that there are several. "The usurper that is in the White House is one, B. Hussein Obama," he said.

Later in the interview, Colmes returned to Drake's answer to make sure he heard him right.

"Are you praying for his death?" Colmes asked.

"Yes," Drake replied.

"So you're praying for the death of the president of the United States?"

"Yes."

5. I hope the FBI is monitoring these religious zealots. They are an extreme danger.
Their brand of religion is more a political party than anything else. Not just this nut, there are plenty more like him who spew hate from their pulpits against the President, democrats, gays, doctors, etc in the name of their god.

I hope the FBI is monitoring them because they are filled with hate and have a real potential to be the catalyst for violence against those they disagree with.

21. That Scott Roeder was also on a watch list but no appropriate action was taken
obviously.

My confidence in the FBI/CIA is on shakey ground, to say the least.

6. That is truly sick.
I am no longer surprised by anything "Christian" zealots say or do. They are the American Taliban and represent a major threat to the nation. The frustrating thing is that there is apparently no way to get rid of them, no way to change their minds, no way to educate them. They are unreachable. And insanely hateful and violent.

Some "Christians"!

9. Let me think of my rememrance of the bible... which i admit is quite limited.
but what i do remember about it and what i was taught about god and such in the many years of catholic school is that we don't pray for someone's death. well, i prayed once for god to make my mom better or to take her, which i guess was praying for her death... but she was very sick and i didn't want her to suffer anymore. but generally i don't think it is very christian to pray for someone do die.

In fact, I was taught that empathy was a Christian concept. Either, I failed Christianity or these idiots did.

On edit: BTW: I still even have some empathy for the idiots.

Well if that isn't the all time buck passing statement I don't know what would be. Got God's address? Cell #? Can we arrest him for inciting you assholes to violence and hopes of violence?

11. "Usurper"!? LOL...
Some of these folks have been watching way too many cartoons. Does your disagreement with someone else really make them a super villain?

And I'm really getting into this renaming of Obama that's going on. "B. Hussein Obama," "Barack Hussein Obama" with melodramatic emphasis on "Hussein," and my personal favorite, "Barry Sotero"--I mean, the guy's so mainstream and middle-of-the road, and here the wingnuts are, trying to feed everyone's imagination with the sinister, exotic Obama-you-don't-know. And this probably works on some people (at least half the time because they really want to believe this crap).

I like to hope, though, that for most people, this nonsense will build a healthy level of fringe-ophobia.

17. What this asshole proves is he has
no understanding of Christianity. He's one of the idiots who reads the Old Testament all the time and buys into the vengeance of God and forgets, if he ever knew, the whole message of the New Testament.

I think he might just have a rude awakening at the pearly gates.

22. talibornagain piece of shit
honestly, I no longer see much difference between the religious extremists in our midst and the ones in the middle east.

anyone who gives money to a southern baptist church, a tithe, etc. participates in this culture of hate.

southern baptists seem to have completely lost any association they ever had with christianity. now they're nothing more than a hate group.

28. Interesting legal question
Are there actually any laws against praying for the President's death? I mean, ethically, is there any difference between that and thinking "I wish he was dead", which is not very nice, but not illegal? Unless you believe in a God who acts as a sort of cosmic hitman, that is, in which case it becomes the equivalent of asking someone to take out the President on your behalf.

31. well I think you have to look further into this guy
For example, did he hoard weapons after the election? Has he made an attempt to carry out any threats on President Obama? Has he sent any threatening phone calls, letters, or emails?
Conspiracy is a crime.

30. It is indisuputable though, that right wing leaders saying people should die does get results
Running around saying you are making "imprecatory prayers" against your enemies seems more like making a threat than a prayer.

But then... people never take to evil so completely and cheerfully as when they do it from religious conviction.
