ABC News: CIA hires terrorist group to operate inside Iran.
Edited on Wed Apr-04-07 05:21 PM by tjwash
Full Story Here

New York, April 4, IRNA - Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has hired a Pakistani terrorist group that has carried out a series of deadly terrorist attacks inside Iran, ABC News has reported on Wednesday.

The group, members of the Baluchi tribe, operates from Pakistan's province of Baluchestan, just across the border from Iran.

ABC cited US government sources it did not identify as saying the US has maintained close ties to its leader, Abdel-Malik Regi, since 2005.

The group, called Jundullah, has carried out raids, resulting in the deaths or kidnapping of Iranian ordinary people as well as soldiers and officials.

The large Iranian community residing in the US protested strongly to Voice of America (VOA)'s live interview with Regi recently in which the terrorist claimed responsibility for the operations.

Regi admitted to have personally executed some of the Iranian captives, the ABC News report said.

A Pakistani tribal militant group responsible for a series of deadly guerrilla raids inside Iran has been secretly encouraged and advised by American officials since 2005, U.S. and Pakistani intelligence sources tell ABC News.

The group, called Jundullah, is made up of members of the Baluchi tribe and operates out of the Baluchistan province in Pakistan, just across the border from Iran.

It has taken responsibility for the deaths and kidnappings of more than a dozen Iranian soldiers and officials.

U.S. officials say the U.S. relationship with Jundullah is arranged so that the U.S. provides no funding to the group, which would require an official presidential order or "finding" as well as congressional oversight.

Tribal sources tell ABC News that money for Jundullah is funneled to its youthful leader, Abd el Malik Regi, through Iranian exiles who have connections with European and Gulf states.

So we are now supporting an ex-Taliban terrorist to push us further towards a war with Iran. Same old pig, just with a new hat on. When pressed, Dubya and his cronies undoubtedly will say "No, no no no, these guys aren't Al-Qaeda, They're freedom fighters."

1. Pakistan "Contra" anyone?
"U.S. officials say the U.S. relationship with Jundullah is arranged so that the U.S. provides no funding to the group, which would require an official presidential order or "finding" as well as congressional oversight"

Hmmm...and there are how many missing dollars that were supposed to go to Iraq?

20.  well, there is no way any "militant' group is doing
this without funding...and I seriously doubt the CIA is merely giving advice...so

lost dollars earmarked for Iraq could have gone to a third party - say a dummy corporation or dummy group - and then funneled back to the militant group...

or money was overpaid for services to a legitimate company and the books only reflect a correct payment, and the extra funneled through another company or group...then onto the militants

109. And where did Poppy Bush DUMP the tons of cheap IranContra cocaine? Inner cities
and black communities.

The 1996 report on CIA drugrunning that dumped all that cheap coke into black communities never got the traction it needed with the public because the Clinton WH helped downplay and deny the report and targeted the reporter, Gary Webb, for a takedown while they stonewalled on the documents that finally showed up in 1998 when the public was distracted with sex stories.

BET has a documentary out now called American Gangster which gives an overview of that report and includes the CIA document that proves Webb's report was accurate.

Assuming Bush still wants to capture/kill the man responsible for 9/11. Isn't OBL supposed to be in hiding inside Pakistan? Hell, the death squad wouldn't even have to travel far; Bush would save big bucks by not having to pay for international travel.

we aren't looking for OBL, start by taking a glance at the FBI most wanted list. Under OBL's supposed attacks and crimes, 9/11 is not one of the mentioned attacks. As a matter of fact, nobody on their most-wanted list has any listing under the 9/11 incident. You would think 9/11 would be major reason for wanting these guys. Why is the crime unlisted? Very wierd to me.

80. Thanks, Lost Patriot!
Usama Bin Laden is wanted in connection with the August 7, 1998, bombings of the United States Embassies in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and Nairobi, Kenya. These attacks killed over 200 people. In addition, Bin Laden is a suspect in other terrorist attacks throughout the world.

FBI 10 most wanted

You're correct; no where in the above description does it mention 9/11. Very weird, indeed!

And welcome to DU! You won't be "lost" for long! :hi:

5. This is a typical BFEE operation - they've been funding terrorism and unrest for decades now.
Edited on Wed Apr-04-07 05:33 PM by blm
This is why it was so important for BushInc to get the books closed on IranContra, Iraqgate, BCCI and CIA drugrunning stories.

Does anyone really believe that Poppy Bush and his cronies woke up one day in Jan 1993 and decided to STOP drugrunning, armsdealing, moneylaundering and funding global terrorist groups just because they were no longer in the White House?

Fock that - BFEE became STRONGER in the 90s. Now they have control of most broadcast and print media around the country, too, and can pretty much get away with shit like this.

I printed out his New Yorker article, "The Redirection" and read it through twice. He spoke in general terms about the U.S. funding terrorist groups linked to Al-Qaeda.

Somehow, being forewarned by Sy Hersh didn't make the shock any less to me when I logged onto DU and began reading this thread. I feel just...devastated. I have tears in my eyes and more than anything I feel so ASHAMED! WHY do these monsters want to make us ashamed to be Americans??? I can't take it any more--impeach these bastards!!!

48. If this simple answer to your "why" can help you, I hope it can:
Why? Because they don't give a flying fly about anyone feeling ashamed, or about anyone who got murdered in their wet-dream-of-a-new-Pearl-Harbor come true and their relatives, or about anyone getting blown up by IEDs, or about anyone drowning to death in their own beds because of their imcompetence. All they ever wanted is u n l i m i t e d power to do whatever they feel like will raise themselves -- and their drunk-dead cronies -- a few more millions here, or a few more billions there, or another trillion on their next term, and then BRAG about it at their next family-reunion.

That's really all that matters to them.

It is not your fault if these sickos do not, never did, nor will never care about ANYONE else than THEMSELVES.

I truly hope this simple -- but true -- answer can help you feel not ashamed. It's not your fault.

56. I know it isn't my fault. Like just about everyone here at DU,
I wasn't fooled for one minute by their brazen attempts to use 9/11 as a pretext for war with Iraq, which the neocons wanted anyway--in order to get control of Iraq's oil and as a pretext for destroying democracy in the United States.

I am ashamed because they are committing their crimes against humanity in the name of the American people!

The only way we can redeem ourselves--not just in the world's eyes but in our own eyes is to impeach Bush and Cheney. That's at least as important, if not more so. We have to reaffirm to ourselves what we stand for and what our core values are, and sponsoring terrorists is NOT what we stand for!!! I really don't care if Bush and Cheney get impeached on their LAST day in office, although the sooner the better. The important thing is that we repudiate them and everything they stand for.

57. Not because it's intrinsically incomprehensible, although the interactions
of the key players Sy Hersh talks about are rather convoluted. The real reason it's incomprehensible is because it's unthinkable--at least if you're a normal person. But once you truly understand these monsters are not, and never been, normal people, then it becomes comprehensible.

it becomes easy to see that the BFEE just CONTINUED its operations throughout the 90s even as Americans were lulled into thinking that Bush1 and his cronies were out of power.

The BFEE operations NEVER STOPPED in the 90s and instead became STRONGER and more widespread as Democrats who had been exposing their crimes became marginalized while Democrats willing to provide cover to BFEE operations gained power within the DC powerstructure.

Their main goal was to fund the mujahadeen (now called 'taliban' and 'al qaida') for the purposes of giving the USSR their own vietnam. These groups are all conected at the roots and it goes back farther in time than many suspect. It's very scary, really...

Double sourcing a story like this is pretty difficult. They had to devote some resources to running a story like this down. I never thought I'd see a big network actually report this policy. Those Jundallah's are bad news; their attacks have killed lots of people. If the US has sponsored this, we've given them a cause for declaring war.

"I've set a clear doctrine: America makes no distinction between the terrorists and the countries that harbor them. If you harbor a terrorist, you're just as guilty as the terrorists..."

46. Maybe some of the Powers That Be decided it's time to take down
the BFEE? I mean the people who really pull the strings, whoever they are. Maybe BushCo has outlived their usefulness to them, so they leaked this story to ABC, or gave them the green light to leak this story, or something.

If that is the case, we need to beware of a limited hang-out. They will try to take a little bit of pressure off the system, allow a few "cosmetic" reforms, etc. but keep the real power structure intact. That's the biggest danger I can see: beware of a premature and incomplete "national healing." They ALL need to be taken down once and for all.

The writer went out of the way to state that Congressional approval would be required for unding. Sounds like a set up.

Thought crossed - is something about to be revealed that would put the WH/CIA in deeper trouble?

Or is this just more proof that the U.S. partners with al Queda?

The big question - why did ABC publish this? I haven't been near a tv - is everyone reporting it?

Somethins' up - perhaps they have been captured and there are some citizens in the group?

I've grown increasingly suspicious of the US Corpomedia in recent years, so I have to wonder "Why this?" I wonder if it might be an attempt to discredit the CIA--moreso than usual with the average American--in order to produce a backlash regarding the Plame incident.

Either by:
1) Twisted logic: "If CIA is 'bad' and Plame was in CIA, then Plame is 'bad'"
2) Make Plame and Wilson persona non grata (see no. 1) in time for Wilson's civil suit (or to downplay the ongoing hearings).

I just don't buy that ABC is acting in the best interests of the nation as the "Fourth Estate."

shows the topic was part of the news cycle but nothing came of it. Every now and then a crucial story comes out but as long as none of the other media repeat it or discuss it, then it dies.

This has happened on many serious stories over the last two decades.

"In February 2006 the Karachi anti-terrorist court awarded the death penalty and life imprisonment for eleven activists of Jundullah group for attacking the convoy of former Corps Commander Karachi, and incumbent Vice Chief of Army Staff, General Ahsan Saleem Hayat in Karachi on June 10, 2004.<5>"

How do we do it? How do we juggle all these factions?

Bush and Cheney walk down the path holding the hand of an Israeli leader on one side and the King of Saudi Arabia on the other.

They befrien and praise the leader of Pakistan at every opportunity. Pakistan against Jundallah. So the U.S. holds the hand of Muzharraf on one side the the hand of al Queda on the other.

89. Why do many Dems still accept Bill Clinton's decision to ignore BCCI entirely
during his terms and the fact that he never even mentioned BCCI once in his entire book?

Can we expect same from Hillary ? We know we can from the R's candidates, as this is the real scandal behind CIA/GOP/$ of Cunningham and Lam scandals.

Did we get the war the CIA 'paid for' ?

"It's all part of a growing ongoing investigation into corruption in defense and intelligence contracts, which already has sent former Rep. Randy “Duke” Cunningham to prison and, legal sources say, may threaten others in Congress and the CIA."

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12634250 /

THIS IS THE MOTHER OF ALL SCANDALS, and they sure do love the $ too.

60. The terrorist against my enemy is not a terrorist
So let's see if I've got this right...

The "global war on terror" (which kicked into high gear on 9/11/01) is against, not a government or even a specific political or military movement (the war in Iraq being part of the "front lines" of the "global war on terror"), but against those who employ "terrorist" TACTICS...

EXCEPT, when, as in this case, they are working WITH us, AGAINST "state sponsors of terrorism," the "AXIS of EVIL," even if those SAME PEOPLE are, in fact, ALLIES and ideological soul-mates of the very same people who attacked the United States on 9/11/01, allegedly America's "wake up call" to the NECESSITY of the "global war on terror" against those who "hate us for our freedoms."

Oh, yeah. I'm with you. Makes perfect sense. Fight 'em over there so we don't have to fight 'em over here. Fund 'em over there so we don't have to... huh?

:wtf: :wtf: :wtf:

Economic Potential of Balochistan

Balochistan's colonizers, Iran and Pakistan, have used the argument that “resource-rich” Baloch territory cannot sustain as an independent country! According to figures given below, Balochistan has the potential to generate $58 billion per year within a short span after gaining its independence.

The excuses given in the past by the colonizers for totally neglecting Balochistan is that the major constraints in the industrial development have been the lack or the absence of infrastructure, scattered nature of population, vastness of area, dearth of skilled labor, social structure, tribal feuds and lack of marketing facilities.

Chuck Robb is usually tapped for coverup duties, too. John Breaux is suspect, too - he has always been personally very close with Poppy Bush.

I think BFEE has blackmail photos on some Dems.

Do we ever learn..?!

It is a US policy to fund opposition groups of unfavorable regimes. Bush will very openly assert his support of the opposition in Iran. He previously called on opposition figures in Iraq to overthrow Saddam. Regime change is after all this US Administrations gift to the world.

It doesn't matter if the groups are a bunch of fundamentalist, murderers or extremist. They will always be supported if they serve the interests of the US.... Freedom Fighters so long as they serve our interests. When they don't they'll be labeled terrorists.

The Baluchi tribes are another people in the middle east very similar to the Kurd, who deserve their own Homeland. They are scattered around coastal areas of Iran and Pakistan. Many refugees went to Oman and are now citizens of that country. Supporting the Balushis is a very sensitive issue and giving them anything resembling a Nation will be opposed by US allies in the Persian Gulf region.

They are obviously just been used, as I doubt the US would ever assist them to attain their ambition of Independence from Iran and Pakistan. Jundullah are been used as Pawns very similar to Al-Qaida....
