This one might have slipped by: Texas House passes State's Rights Bill.
Edited on Tue Jun-02-09 04:39 PM by bushmeister0
Dallas News: 12:00 AM CDT on Sunday, May 31, 2009

"The resolution, which is nonbinding, passed 99-36, and now heads to the Senate. It was opposed by some Democrats who said it conjures up images of Southern 'states' rights' rallies during the civil rights era and sounds like a resolution on Gov. Rick Perry's recent secession comments ... (s)upporters, including the resolution's author, Rep. Brandon Creighton, said it's not an effort to strip away anyone's rights. He said he's simply tired of the federal government burdening Texans with unfunded costs – programs like the Real ID Act and the No Child Left Behind education law. He's asking for a renewed respect for the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which reserves powers not granted to the federal government for the states."

According to the article, Houston Rep. Senfronia Thompson, was able to block this resolution on a technicality earlier this month, saying 'such resolutions could challenge federal authority and funding of programs such as children's health insurance and unemployment benefits.'

Well, who the hell cares about children and the unemployed? I mean, the Governor's mansion is a wreck! What will all the international dignitaries think of the great nation of Texas if they see that dingy shotgun shack?

Idea: Maybe, they could elect W. as the first president of Texas?

1. W wouldn't be the first president of Texas
Seems to me his name was Sam Houston. Old Sam also wisely said that it wasn't a good idea for Texas to leave the Union. Wise words that should be heeded today.

2. W. is working to serve the people of Texas and looking toward the future.
Leave the past to the historians!

4. He served kind of like the aliens did in that Twilight Zone episode: "To serve Man."
