W00T! I just registered the domain quarantinefoxnews.com!
Stay tuned. It'll take a few days, but my idea's to put up a database of establishments that inflict FOX News upon their customers, that users can contribute to, so that said businesses can be boycotted, subject to incessant requests to change the channel, or direct action via TV-B-Gone.

2. Good for you
I thought Olbermann's suggestion was reasoned and has the potential to be more effective than a boycott of any kind. Thankfully my doctor's office runs a continuous loop of health tips, advice, warnings and recipes.

3. And... you will verify the list how?
This does not sound like a good idea to me. I do not doubt the intention behind the idea but I expect such a list could not be properly maintained, subjecting businesses to unverified harassment.

8. Tough fucking shit if businesses get harrassed
first of all for profit business is evil in and amongst itself..secondly I know we have to have this evil among us in the US and third, if we harrass anyone long enough about Fox News they will hate that there ever was a Fox News

9. I see
All businesses are evil anyway, so it is ok to hurt them for no reason and... as a side benefit, they will join your cause because you hurt them...

Do you realize just how stupid that idea is?

10. I may put in a complaints/verification mechanism...
If there's too much abuse, I may take action, but at least to start, I'll just let it be, and leave an address for complaints of false enrollment in the database, but it all depends on how much abuse exists.

12. And... people know they are your victim how?
Sorry, this is just a stupid idea. The fact that your ok with hurting businesses randomly makes it even worse.

14. I think you're overthinking it too much.
I'm coming to the conclusion that this is an eggs-and-omelets situation. And I don't know about you, but I want the damned omelet.

13. Oh k&r!
Now this is a practical boycott.

I hate being subjected to all TV and most music in places that I must frequent.

Fox is noise pollution.

15. Now I've got to find some web software good for putting this together.
Edited on Tue Jun-02-09 01:27 PM by backscatter712
I've done a couple websites, my own personal site http://meldroc.com being the latest one, but I guess I need something with the capability of maintaining a list of offending businesses that can be added to by users, rated by users (so people in the area can double-check other entries, and down-rate false-alarms), searchable by location (Find all locations that play FOX News in Omaha, Nebraska, for example.) and so on.

Any ideas on software that can do this? Ideally something that can easily run on Dreamhost, I'm talking about your basic LAMP architecture web site.

20. Good. My favorite local sandwich shop shows Fox,
and it drives me crazy. I had an appointment to have lunch with a pariishioner somewhere else today, but will probably go there tomorrow and ask them to change the channel. If not, I'll add 'em to your database.

Thanks for doing this!
