And the results are stark and really quite amazing.
One the one hand, you have Bush, who's administration just stated moments ago that Iran would have to change its attitude and stop all nuclear work before America would engage them. Of course, this stance should not surprise any of us--we have seen it for 6 long tired years. And the arrogence just does not sit right, not with middle eastern nations, and not with anybody else on the planet. Somehow now, it sounds childish, petty, and shrill. Anti-Americanism is at an all time high, but it appears that the world is not so stupid after all.......
Because Speaker Pelosi reaches out to the very nations that Bush condemns--and gains concessions, and openings for dialogues that he has either not been able to, or was unwilling to embrace. Just like that. A grown up to talk with and 15 british sailors are released. Just like that. Syria wants to open talks with Israel. Just like that. Israel wants to talk to Syria. Just like that.
Just like that, the world wants to feel hopeful again.....and bypass Bush altogether if need be. The winds of change are blowing fast and hard. And Bush is boxed in and cornered, his area of influence shrinking by the hour. And what it really interesting about all of this is that it makes me recognize that the Anti Americanism is more anti Bush/Bush foreign postering and policies than anything else.
Pelosi is doing the right thing. And she isn't waiting around for the state department, or Condi Rice to get things done, because Condi's hands are tied and she cannot. The arrogent tired rhetoric spewing forth from her is what her masters tell her to say--it has not worked for six years to make any sort of plausible positive change in attitude of any of Bush enemy states. And isolation does not work, has not worked and will not work.
You work with the foreign governments you have.....not the ones you wish you had. Right Donald????? Right? And the best way to institute change is to work with them, like it or not.
Who knows.....the winds are blowing hard....just a little harder and peace just might break out. Poor Bush will be done for then--and so will the PNAC master plan. One can hope.....
