How utterly weird is this question? (from an online poll):
I was taking this Zogby poll this morning, and this question was asked:

1. I presume
you're talking about the "wired directly into your brain" question as being weird? Frankly, they're both weird to me. I don't feel that the government owes anybody free television or phone service, either.

I have met some very geeky individuals who might find this prospect inviting. It would be great to be looking over a rack of fine wines, and be able to instantly know their Wine Spectator rating. But such a link would never be only one way, and it does sound like the plot of a scary sci-fi novel.

5. I read the second question differently
"guaranteeing universal access" doesn't mean free internet.

It means that everyone should have access to some IP, no matter where they live.

That would mean telecom companies would be obligated to provide services to cover the whole country, not just where they make the most profit.

11. Well, that's the problem with poll questions
How they are interpreted determines how they will be answered. And how they are asked determines how they will be interpreted.

14. Yup. It's a tricky business
By asking a series of misleading questions, they can actually get you to agree with something you were once against.

Or by simply asking something with large and vaguely threatening buzzwords.

6. Still in the realm of science fiction, but in the future the internet probably will

be hooked right into your head. I have read some cyber-punk SF with this as an accepted part of the story line. If you couldn't pay your automatically deducted bill because you ran out of credits in your account, no internet and you were pretty much an outsider.

And we think texting while driving is bad...wait until people are surfing in their head while behind the wheel!

9. Now THERE'S an interesting SF concept.
What happens if a person dies while he is jacked in, and he doesn't realize that he has died? He still lives, but only in the cyber world.

His avatar is fully functional, can access the outside world through the net - does it have any legal rights?

12. I want universal internet access!! I think more people would be
informed of what's going on if they had the internet.

No way do I want it in my brain though.
