Update from Kansas on Dr. Tiller's murder
Just talked to a good friend whose wife is a doctor who used to do abortions and knew Dr Tiller. Sorry my Internet is in and out and I am posting from my phone and can't cut and paste links. But this murder is all over the news here. Just turned on both CNN and FOX and neither is mentioning this murder.

Anyhow my friend says they have a tag number and the car is from Marion County, which is north of Wichita.

Damn bastards. Damn so-called 'prolife' murdering bastards.

I'll try to post local stories if my home Internet ever comes back up.

3. I wonder if there's more than one shooter?
The Wichita Eagle is reporting that the tags of the car are registered in Merriam, not too far from you.

7. Yes, just got another call. It is Merriam.

Car registered to an owner in Merriam, which is literally blocks from my house :scared:

And the door locks at a women's clinic in KCK were super glued twice in the last week.

I'm sorry the guy is dead, but if there is a god, then we can hope he would see the blessing of this turning out to be a Phelps family conspiracy which will take them all down.

He is against GAYS, and has never said anything about abortion that I know of.

Can you tell us if it is vanity or more likely a standard KS plate.

11. I read a report that stated it was a K-State vanity plate...
But that's all for now.

I would think with a plate number it shouldn't be too long before they pick this guy up.

I would imagine they know who it is by now.

More a curiosity at this point.

The shooter must have known the risks if he used his own car and is willing to accept what comes should he be caught. Could also have been a decoy (something pointed out to me in email), or "stolen".

16. Interesting...
I was basing my response on this news report:

In a news conference on Sunday afternoon, police said they were looking for a blue Ford Taurus with a K-State vanity plate, license number 225 BAB. Police described the shooter as a white male in his 50s or 60s, 6 feet 1 inch tall, 220 pounds, wearing a white shirt and dark pants.

KMBC-TV

I guess the reports are flying fast and furious at this point. I hope they apprehend this guy pronto.

18. it was probably a front plate
Kansas only requires rear license plates, and many people put a vanity plate - such as the K-State plate - on the front of their cars.

27. The description of most Kansas freepers, no doubt: White fat, no style.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that his wife left him, and he's out of work on disability, he lacks health care, and his kids never speak to him.

But he goes to church once in a while, when there's free food.

14. right-winger country
is everywhere, these days. I've seen billboards in South Dakota and Minnesota, and they are, of course, prolific here in southern Ohio. Recently I saw a JTM truck with "choose life" message and the picture of a baby on it. Too bad the respect for life stops at the exit from the womb.

24. Exactlly..that's the total irony of
of it all. That these are the kind of idiots who want the government for one thing and one thing only..to infer in the rights of a woman's body.

Otherwise they're all about hate, bigotry, and hypocricy.

12. Their essential flaw is their Hypocrisy, of which this act is a clear example.
They make exceptions about the value of human life ALL OF THE TIME, because they claim to be the arbiters of who is innocent and who is not. I've said it before about a thousand times, and I know people think I'm a little cracked but, these people, by the basic tenets of their own religion are

BLASPHEMERS

Even if I do disagree with the necessity of particular judgements, At least the Pro-Choice position recognizes the situational necessity of making judgement calls and, being situationally grounded is, thus, NOT acting like "God".

As for me: That which denys the Oppressor that which to Oppress is a mature act of conscience.

17. Here is a story with link:
Abortion doctor Tiller killed at church
By AP
Dr George Tiller, a prominent advocate for abortion rights who was wounded by a protester more than a decade ago, was shot and killed Sunday at his church in Wichita, a city official said.

A City Hall official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak about the case said that the 67-year-old doctor was killed Sunday morning at Reformation Lutheran Church.

Police spokesman Gordon Bassham would not confirm the victim's identity pending notification of relatives. He said the shooting occurred at 10:03 a.m. and the gunman fled the scene by car.

Bassham said no suspects were in custody. He said it is not clear whether one or more suspects were involved.

Captain Brent Allred said police were looking for a gunman who fled in a 1993 light blue Ford Taurus registered in Merriam, Kansas.

Anti-abortion group Operation Rescue issued a statement denouncing the shooting.

Tiller has been among the few US physicians performing late-term abortions. His clinic has repeatedly been the site of protests for about two decades and he was shot and wounded in both arms by a protester in 1993.

He remained prominent in the news in recent years, in part because of an investigation begun by former Kansas Attorney General Phill Kline, an abortion opponent.

Prosecutors had alleged that Tiller had gotten second opinions from a doctor who was essentially an employee of his, not independent as state law requires, but a jury in March acquitted him of all 19 misdemeanor counts against him.

Abortion opponents also questioned then-Governor Kathleen Sebelius' ties to Tiller before the Senate confirmed her this year as US Health and Human Services Secretary. Tiller donated thousands of dollars to Sebelius' campaigns over the years.

23. I just hope they don't turn this murderous freak into a martyr.
Bad enough that this guy actually thought killing anyone is an acceptable political or religious statement, I just HOPE common sense rules the day and this guy ends up in a jail cell for the rest of his miserable life.

We do not need any more Timothy McVeighs.
