Just saw the first commercial describing scary Canada and its Health Care system
Canadians speaking out on how their system is terrible and almost killed them.

I wonder if these fucks realize that it is not 1992 and that a 10% unemployment rate and the gouging they've done of the American Consumer over the past 17 years makes things different this time.

Hopefully

1. They probably had to search high and low to find those Canadians
I know I would. Its obviously just US propaganda.

The ONLY time the US focuses on how "bad" Canada's health system is, is when they are trying to scare people out of reform. Unfortunately, it isn't like the US would even consider single-payer reform in the first place, so these adds are a bit unnecessary.

2. I'm guessing they aren't even Candadian
and their stories are made up.

Don't worry, the US media will give cover for this bullshit.

3. What's the point? Obama is not proposing a Canadian-style system.
Edited on Sat May-30-09 12:09 PM by subterranean
It's a straw man argument. In any case, I'm sure it would be easy to find many more Canadians who love their health care system and have been well served by it. Like this DU poster:

Even though it isn't, that is going to be the scare tactic, and I assure you if it passes and the GOP takes power in the next 8 years again, they will ensure that this program fails at all cost.

And itll probably fail anyway, without even the help of the GOP.

Honestly, they call President Obama a socialist, he's many things, a socialist is not one of them.

7. Well, in defense of that....
He did nearly socialize GM. :)

Though I doubt the government will influence its operations effectively, and they will probably sell it all off the minute it becomes profitable.

11. I like telling people we need to get rid of the socialized police depts, fire depts,
the socialized public schools, the socialized road and highway depts, the socialzed airports, the socialized military, coast guard and let those that want those just go out pay for it themselves. ;-)

8. That particular GREAT post needs to go viral, particularly if they are targeting
the Canadian system as being bad, when it's what most of us aspire to have.

People in the United States would weep with gratitude to have that type of care at almost no out of pocket expense. Seriously, are we really and finally an Idiotcracy? All indicators are pointing that way.

Yep we are an idiotcracy, when there is more talk over the scandal over the President's dog during a week on the news shows than actual policies, you know America has jumped the shark.

12. I Just Saw It, Too
And I was thinking of all the uninsured Americans who would be happy to go see a doctor in a few months as opposed to never. But of course the Americans complaining have decent health insurance, which not all of us have. And why would those with care about those without.:sarcasm:

Why won't people realize we can take the best of all the healthcare systems out there and make it ours, rather than assuming we will take the worst of what is out there and make it ours?

1993 redux.

Its easier to scare people with made up horror stories than to sell them on something that is good for them.

It doesn't hurt when the American Health Industry are regular purchasers of advertising for the 7 corporations that control the media.

From hospitals to Pharma, to Insurance, the current Industry is a great customer to our TV, Radio, and print media.

17. I doubt it takes any longer in Canada to see a doctor
than it does here. Generally, it takes a few weeks to get an appt. here, longer to see a specialist.

22. You are lucky if it only takes weeks. When you call our doc for
an appointment for annual screenings, the wait is 2-3 months. If you have an immediate concern, you can sometimes be squeezed in but are more often directed to one of the urgent care clinics in town.

27. It took Me Six Months to See a Dematologist
And the appointment maker never asked "what for?" Of course if I had thought I had a skin cancer, I would have tried to get in sooner, but her stock answer was six months.

are nothing but bullshit anyway. Unfortunately for some people with preconceived notions they work.

20. Replace gov't bureaucracies with insurance companies and you have American healthcare.
Edited on Sat May-30-09 03:22 PM by anonymous171
Insurance Companies can decide what treatments you are allowed to get, which doctors you can see, and which hospitals you can go to. Personally, I prefer public bureaucracies to private ones. At least I have some say in how they are run.
