Files on Priest Sex Abuse to Be Opened

Connecticut’s highest court ruled on Friday that thousands of pages of documents from sexual-abuse lawsuits filed against priests in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bridgeport that had been kept sealed for more than a decade must be made public.

The 4-to-1 decision by the State Supreme Court was the latest milestone in a seven-year legal fight between the Diocese of Bridgeport and four newspapers: The New York Times, The Hartford Courant, The Boston Globe and The Washington Post.

1. One aspect that offers endless specualtion and fascination;
Why, oh why did all these dioceses maintain files and never figure out that it was a bad idea to allow these guys around kids? For that matter, why put it all in writing in the first place?

2. The really disturbing thing is that most of the time the sex abuse was never...
filed. This problem has been rampant and ignored for generations. In my Dad's day parents were easily convinced to not make a fuss about their sons being diddled by the parish priest. My father's best friend was repeatedly abused and was actually expelled from his prep school when his parents complained.

3. I brought it up to my parents and it pretty much ended our
relationship. Let us just say there was an edge until they died. But they never took it forward and I sure as hell wasn't going to.
