8. Or spaghetti or pasta, because those are derived from Chinese noodles.
Imagine Italian cuisine without tomatoes OR pasta!

2. Blimey! But it does occur to me that this may be wishful thinking on the part of the loony-right
blogger, rather than a serious policy of the government. Does anyone know?

4. He got it from The Times
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/food_and_drink/article5622156.ece

and the Christian Science Monitor reported it a few weeks later: http://www.csmonitor.com/2009/0223/p01s02-woeu.html

The bastion of tolerance that is FreBritannia/Sterling Times was in favour, of course: http://sterlingtimes.websitetoolbox.com/post?id=3280460 :eyes:

3. Hilarious!
I am reading this as I digest my lunch from the "Mr. Kabob" down the street.

There are a lot of ingredients they will be sorry to loose if they go all the way down that slippery slope with this. But they found the daily specials still written on the wall of a restaurant when they dug out Pompeii, so I guess they can start from there.

6. Ah, Lucca! I absolutely LOVED Lucca, Italy in the Tuscany region.
I had one of my life's greatest meals there. It is truly the epitome of Tuscan food and it is beyond superb.

That said, the Lucchese people quoted in this article are being idiots. I guess the fact that it is a walled town has prevented its people from going beyond their way of thinking. I remember when I was there finding very few Lucchese who spoke English. My Italian was just good enough to get along...

If you ever have a chance, go to Lucca to eat there. You won't be disappointed. Disregard the idiots. Most of the Italians I met didn't care as long as the food was fresh.

P.S. I never had a bad meal in Italy and I've been there several times!

PPS. The Sicilians know better. They acknowledge the diversity of their culture. They pretty much had to. That island had so many invaders it ended up with a rich stew of diverse tastes, all good!
