Update On Larisa Alexandrovna (lala_rawraw)

Update

Larisa is on her way home from the hospital as I type. The testing went well, with no immediate evidence of Scleroderma! We have to wait for the biopsy, but the doctor thinks that things look good.

On her behalf, I'd like to thank all of you for your prayers, good thoughts, and kind words. The power of positive thinking is awesome, indeed.

She should be back to her old self in no time at all.

Again, thanks so much.

-Diane (and Larisa's BF)

1. Glad to hear it
Scleroderma is one of the nastier components. Polymiositis is another.

I sincerely hope she has neither.

You guys, I am sitting here reading this with tears running down my face. I don't know how to thank everyone for such kindness, but I will give it a try.

On my way to the clinic yesterday I saw something I had not seen in years, a hearse, driving next to me on the highway. The idiotic drama queen that I am, I took that as an omen of something either going wrong with the procedure or something terrible to be found during the procedure. At the clinic, when the nurse was attempting to insert the IV needle, my blood vessels kept collapsing and she had to keep poking. I took that as an omen, the idiotic drama queen that I am. But once the IV was in, I pulled out my Sidekick and attempted to access DU from where I was, seemingly in another world.
I knew I could not post anything because I don’t keep my passwords on my handheld. I was only hoping to just see familiar nicknames, news of the world, personal anecdotes, and everything else that makes this vibrant community so familiar and comfortable for me. It took ages to load and in the end, I got no further than the header, but I tried all the while feeling the various pokes and prods, and even as each idiotic drama queen fear would flood me – I kept trying to “be” with all of you.

Most of us don’t know one another, not even the basics about each other. Yet regardless of who we are - some in the public eye, some anonymous - and despite all of our various differences on any number of issues, despite age, location, gender, ethnicity, personal hardships, professions, education and everything that can possibly differentiate one human being from another – there is a connection that is very powerful and very comforting. Sitting in that sterile, freezing, lonely place of fear, I tried to connect to you because despite all of these differences, we have a single underlying passion that drives us – our humanity. Through that there is hope and through hope everything is possible. I may have not been able to reach you, but you reached me because even though I could not connect, I came close enough to feel some sense of hope and some lifting of my idiotic drama queen fears. While I did get good news in that the doctor did not find any overt or immediate signs of Scleroderma or any visible evidence of Lupus related damage to my esophagus and stomach, there is still these long few days until the biopsy results come back. From now until then seems like an eternity, but your kind words have made the waiting bearable and tolerable. I cannot think of how I can repay your kindness and your support through this horrible time. This disease (Lupus/MCTD) is something that I have had for 11 years now, and I have tried my best to not let it define me or become the summary of who I am. I try to go about my business as though I were well and fully capable of achieving everything, but sometimes, the reality catches up to me, and I find myself feeling vulnerable. Thank you so very much for being there during the vulnerable, idiotic-drama-queen fear of it all. I simply don’t have enough words to thank you properly.

your friend, LA

51. From Larisa's blog today:
http://www.atlargely.com/2007/04/thank_you.html#more

Thank You
All:

I am not sure how to thank all of you for the kind words and kind gestures of support through this horrible time. Fear is a funny thing, because it forces us to be brave - like it or not - and it teaches us to be humble.

I have spent roughly a month now having trouble holding down food, trouble swallowing, and the kind of internal pain that can only be described as wretched fire. Early last week I knew I would be going in sometime this week for the biopsy, but I tried to comb those thoughts to the side, and focus on anything and everything but my fears. I failed to complete an article, but I managed to watch all 5 seasons of Alias back to back, every single episode of Absolutely Fabulous, SG1, both Tomb Raiders, all three Matrix movies, and roughly 8 (always dark comedies), some of which I have seen before. I blogged here and there and spent nearly every night - unable to sleep from the pain - looking through boutiques from which I could afford nothing, re-reading Edna St. Vince Millay, and in general, doing mental acrobatics of all kinds in order to avoid the unavoidable: fear.

And then I remembered the thing about fear that was most important: "To suffering there is a limit, to fearing, none." (Sir Francis Bacon).

So I dived into my fear head first and through your kind support, managed to find an island of calm.

Thank you for your wishes, your words, your prayers, vibes, and generosity of spirit. You will never know how much you have helped my aching spirit.
--

Now enough about me already, god knows I am bored out of my mind with that topic.
