2. I was never an old socialist. I can't say I am really any kind of socialist.
Must every person and belief have some kind of identifying label?

3. The Republicans are popularizing the concept of socialism.
That is the interesting thing about this ideological discourse they are attempting. Of course, the Democratic Party is not a socialist party, and I would argue should not be such a party. Rather, pro-socialist forces should work within it along with other progressive forces. The idea of a socialist electoral party is problematic in the first place.

7. Socialist in the US is simply a Social Democrat in the rest of the world
Now a real Socialist is something quite different.

8. Not necessarily.
There have always been social democrats in the US. Social Democrats USA was a right-wing group that supporting the Vietnam War, and churned out the likes of Wolfowitz and Rumsfeld. Bill Clinton was a social democrat in the sense that Tony Blair was. On the other hand, "socialist" and pro-"socialism" always indicated support for a fundamental rupture with capitalist property relations.

11. Funny kind of socialism.
Using the public's money to prop up capitalists. Reverse socialism. Ask the Repiglicans if they like it. Seems to me capitalism always heads for the edge of the cliff and has to be rescued by regulatory measures. This time, unbridled capitalism went too far and the world economy is in freefall. No predictions for a soft landing either.
