Senator Kerry - talk to Single Payer advocates instead of calling Homeland Security

Senator Kerry gives Insurance Companies a seat at the table, but Single Payer activists.

When members of SinglePayerAction.org called on Senator Kerry's Boston office last Friday, "Homeland Security" "protective services was called in. Thats right, Senator Kerry needs special protection from hearing about Single Payer Healthcare. Thats our tax dollars at work.

John Kerry vs. Single-Payer

May 19, 2009 KZeese

By John Walsh | Counterpunch.org

Inspired by the civil disobedience of the Baucus 13, members of SinglePayerAction.org and its allies, including several doctors in Physicians for a National Health Program (PNHP) took our call for single-payer to Senator John Kerrys Boston Office last Friday afternoon. To our surprise three police cars and at least five armed, uniformed cops quickly appeared along with a few undercover agents to greet us. It is standard for John Kerry to call the cops whenever a protest materializes at his office but usually it is some very unenthusiastic Boston cops. This time, however, it was the feds, armed, uniformed cops with cars and badges marked Homeland Security: Executive Protective Service. They demanded to read our fliers- no problem- and maintained their presence long after we left.

At the Senate hearings on Obamas Health Care reform, Senator Baucus, Obamas point man in the Senate made fun of the 13 single-payer protesters who were carried off by the cops when they dared to call for single-payer. Baucus ridiculed the demonstrators, in which he was joined by the despicable, narcissist, John Kerry. Baucus famously declared that what was needed was not egalitarian, comprehensive health care for all - but more cops. And it looks like Obamas Homeland Security is doing just that.

...Kevin Zeese, one of the Baucus 13, cautioned that his arrest, and that of the other 12 in the U.S. Senate, would mean nothing unless demonstrations of the same sort sprung up elsewhere and turned into non-violent civil disobedience like that of the Baucus 13 when necessary. We in Boston are committed to follow the Baucus 13, and we look for others to join us. For more information, see SinglePayerAction.org.

John V. Walsh can be reached at John.Endwar@gmail.com . The flier passed out at the rally along with some pictures can be found at http://rule19.org/pgallery/09-may15-sng-payer.htm

2. Chomsky's take on all of the nefarious Bushie police state jive, and KBR camps...
...is framed in this 'security' manner, in that his view is that those measures are being taken as a want/need of the ownership class to defend themselves and their positions of power against We The People should conditions get that desperate. Food for thought.

3. I have a simple solution for how to get single payer on the table.
Every business owner/every employer needs to announce that as of January 1st of 2011 employers will no longer be paying for medical insurance for any employee.

That should get everyone out on the street - protesting and screaming.

8. It would also eliminate the REAL practical reason that single payer won't fly
Every viable Democrat running for office has offered assurances that if you like your current plan, you can keep it. That statement is needed for the measure to have any popularity.

10. Senator Kerry was in Jordan
Was this disturbance covered in any Boston paper? They might have indicated who called and why. Like you, I always doubt this source.

But, if anyone can explain a means that Kerry could be in DC at 4 pm Thursday and then in Jordan on Friday - somehow going to Boston in between - i will believe the story. (Given the length of the trip and the time difference and the fact that Kerry is on video speaking there - this story is absurd.)

12. No,
and Walsh is well known for inflating some little facts in order to gain publicity. Who knows why the cops were there? It may just be standard procedure or it may be another reason.

14. Or it is all a major conspiracy
:) involving the Jordan Economic Forum, the Boston police, the Boston Herald, and the Boston Globe. Senator Kerry is amazingly powerful and he controls all of them. (But was still concerned about a small demonstration. :sarcasm:

Articles attacking one of the better Senators certainly will not lead to being taken seriously.

7. John Kerry spoke at the World Economic Forum in Jordan that day - making this physically impossible
Edited on Wed May-20-09 12:25 PM by karynnj
He was in the Senate on Thursday until at least 4 :oo at a hearing on the Middle East with Tony Blair. I think it is a physical impossibility that he was in Boston on Friday - as it takes more than 8 hours to fly there and they are 8 or 9 hours ahead of us. From the schedule that event started at 5:15 pm, Kerry arrived from the airport at 5:45 pm. (That would be 10:45 am EDT) Kerry had to leave very soon after that hearing.

I seriously doubt his staff called him or he made any decision - this is from Counter punch.
Link to conference that he was at. http://www.weforum.org/en/knowledge/Events/KN_SESS_SUMM...

(Kerry gives an excellent response at about 41 minutes in on things the Arab countries have to do - and he was applauded for it.) Rather than reading idiotic Counterpunch attacks on Kerry, listening to that conference - and thinking of the fact that he (and Biden) made tough needed demands on Israel at AIPAC - you might see that he is working with the Obama team to move things towards peace.

Much better than snark from Counterpunch.

15. I like John Kerry but want to push him in the right direction on this issue
why was it necessary to call Homeland Security, whether it was kerry or his staff?

He is against Single Payer. He thought more police should be called in
when Baucus 8 protested.

Attacking the messenger is a poor excuse for Kerry's policies.

I like John Kerry but I want to push him in the right direction on this
issue.

17. You are taking Counterpunch at face value
Note that Mass said this was not in Boston papers. It quite frankly may not have happened, there may have been a federal office that they were disturbing.

ALL the Senators know that single payer WILL NOT pass. Too many people want to be assured that they can keep their insurance - something incompatible with single payer. Kerry is one of 99 Senators not for single payer at this point. What is more relevant was that the Nation spoke of Kerry putting letters generated from Dean's appeal for a public option into the Finance committees hearing. That is where a real viable fight can be.

I watched the hearing and there was nothing I saw with Kerry saying that more police should be called in. The only Kerry comment I could make out was - rhetorically asking if anyone was there to hear the hearing. Unlike you, I have no idea what he thinking at any point in time.

Why attack the messenger:
1) Walsh has written untrue things in the past
2) Counterpunch stinks as a source
3) As I proved - and as Walsh could have found out too - it is physically impossible that John Kerry - who was at that point on a plane or speaking at meetings in Jordan to have called the police.

HIS ENTIRE STORY IS THAT KERRY CALLED OUT THE POLICE - and it did not happen.

Why are YOU defending

19. Locking
This is an anti-Democratic hit piece from a questionable source. Articles that call Obama "among the most loathsome of the Uncle Toms in our history" are quite unlikely to lead to legitimate debate.
