E action 1/2 of workers have no Paid Sick Days? Tell Congress to pass the Healthy Families Act!

Have you given a sneezing coworker or friend the "evil eye" lately, wondering if they might have the pandemic flu and give it to you? It seems paranoid, but with the current fears of swine flu, there is new scrutiny around people who go to work or school sick--after all, they could get others sick too. Everyone, including the Centers for Disease Control, agrees: people should stay home when they have the flu.

But there's a big problem: Nearly 1/2 of private sector workers in the U.S. aren't allowed to earn a single paid sick day! And, it's even worse for parents who have no sick time they can use to care for sick children. They are often left with an impossible choice: Do they stay home with a sick child OR do they go to work and leave their sick child home alone in order to be able to afford food and rent?

With one simple law, we can actually make it possible for sick people to stay home. Tomorrow, the Healthy Families Act is being introduced in Congress. This bill ensures that everyone would be able to earn paid sick days--which will protect everyone's health and economic security.

Tell your Congressperson to co-sponsor the Healthy Families Act!

Act now while we have Congress' attention! Concern about a swine flu pandemic underscores the tremendous need for a paid sick days law. Contact your members of Congress today to make sure they know that you support immediate passage of the Healthy Families Act.

*And, don't forget to tell your friends about this action -- their Congresspeople need to hear from them too!

Why are Paid Sick Days so important? Without paid sick days, many people need to go to work even while sick. This means not only that they can't care for themselves or their family, but it also means that they may transmit illnesses to coworkers, customers, or other members of the public. We can't make people choose between paying the rent and staying home to stop the spread of the flu -- we need paid sick days for everyone's economic security and public health.

Tell Congress to support the Healthy Families Act today:

Thank you!

We all know we should stay home when we're sick. But nearly 1/2 of workers aren't allowed to earn paid sick days!

Tell Congress to pass the Healthy Families Act, so everyone can earn paid sick days!
