Boo effin' hoo: MC Karl Rove's dance partner hits a "new ratings low" with Meet The Press
Gregory's "Meet The Press" Ratings Hit New Low

If the Sunday morning TV throne is empty, then the race for the crown is on.

NBC's "Meet the Press" suffered its lowest ratings since David Gregory became moderator last week, dipping below the 3 million viewer mark for the first time since August 19, 2007*.

"Meet" averaged 2.97 million total viewers for the May 10 broadcast, which featured Afghanistan's President Hamid Karzai, Pakistan's President Asif Ali Zardari, Steve Coll and Andrea Mitchell.

Meanwhile, CBS' "Face the Nation," which featured an interview with former Vice President Dick Cheney, averaged 2.74 million total viewers, and ABC's "This Week," which featured interviews with National Security Adviser Jim Jones and Senator John McCain, averaged 2.62 million total viewers (its lowest delivery since August 17, 2008). "Fox News Sunday" with Chris Wallace averaged 1.32 million total viewers.

2. Is anyone surprised?
Most people here have not watched MTP since Gregory took over. I think he's a hack.

4. You've got me pegged. I can't stand to look at Gregory.
It was one thing when Russert was doing the show, I still got pissed and all, but he seemed less obvious about it - More "loyal opposition" than blatant propagandist. But Gregory? It's heartbreaking to think of the greats who preceded him and what the passes for journalism today.

But it looks as if the jig is up for all the Sunday shows - people don't seem to like the "3 mean cons/liberal" format, continued promotion of the neocon party line or the ongoing defense of BushCo and the BFEE. We're burned out on the lies, and they're just phoning it in since November. The passion is gone.

6. That's why we watch Bill Maher, TDS and Colbert.
Each of which probably have (way) far higher viewer numbers when torrent downloaders, web viewers and YouTube are factored in.

It's no mystery why the Republics would like to prevent anyone under the age of 50 from registering to vote. They just don't have that demographic anymore and they're not getting it back any time soon.

9. I think Rachel is also turning into a first class
interviewer. Has intelligent people, not just more reporters and publicans.

12. Ouch. Sorry. I don't have access to Rachel and Olberman.
You can bet I'd have included them had I been thinking outside my narrow experience.

7. He's a disgrace to that show
All you have to do is watch 2 minutes of it and you know he belongs on Fox News.

8. I've never seen anyone sell out as *fast* as David Gregory did.
Edited on Fri May-15-09 01:43 AM by Marr
He was never Edward R. Murrow, of course-- but he did occasionally ask a question that was relevant, and uncomfortable for people in power. Then one day, bam-- it's like someone switched him onto Tim Russert mode. It's "the World According to GE", all the time.

11. David "Dances with Roves" Gregory has always been a shill
and never was a journalist. He never pretended to be anything but. We'll never know who he blew to get Russert's seat but it must have been one hulluva hummer to be kicked up into a prime spot so soon for so very little effort.
