I made a mistake of watching The View. Barbara Walters defending torture
Barbara Walters came up with this ticking time bomb scenario of if her daughter was kidnapped and someone who might know where my daughter is. She would probaly torture. I don't know word for word what she said but that is the jist of it.
Pretty much everyone defending Obama's decision to attempt to block the photos while Joy agreed with now but later they should be released. Elizabeth went on this tirade about being used to increase anger and endangering the troops.
Everytime Joy said torture Elizabeth would interrupt with "Enhanced interrogation techniques!"
Elizabeth also made this claim that at first Khalid Sheikh Mohammed wouldn't say shit at first but if it wasn't for torture there would be a hole in the ground in Los Angeles. :eyes:
I'm probaly missing something but there was a whole lot of lies and little truth. Thanks for letting me vent. Feel much better now but I wish I could get those 15 minutes back.
She got in there the fact that the FBI guy said the tactics took so long but you could barely catch it as Lizzy interrupted her and in turned into a shouting match and from there you couldn't understand anything.
14. LOL - some of my suburban neighbors - it's maddening.
They figure what they see on The View is just enough info on these topics to make them look "informed". It kills me when they only see those snippets and take it as truth.
Some want to know more, but honestly, most don't have time or inclination for more than that.
Something along the same lines as those intestinal cleanses that are so popular lately. Watching The View is, after all, the mental equivalency of eating a meal of twinkies -- you just feel like hell after.
That's not an unusual visceral response. You're supposed to engage your brain afterwards, which is the real failure of the American education system. Somewhere along the line we quit teaching children the difference between feeling and thinking.
But it is highly unlikely scenario used to justify torture. To actually break it down I would use the information gathering techniques that helped me learn how that person knows to find my child. You had to used some kind of thinking technique to figure out that person knows unless you tortured your way to that information.
You have to validate a person' emotional reaction before you will get most of them to even begin to consider another path than the one they're on. If a parent saw someone grab their 2 year old and run down the street, I guarantee you that the first reaction most people have will be a violent one and willingness to do anything to get their child back. That's why we have a temporary insanity plea. You have to acknowledge that reality before you begin the discussion about truly effective means of keeping the child safe. Can you imagine talking to a mother whose child has just been grabbed about Miranda or Geneva Conventions?
