The Lieberman defense: We won't do it again, so drop it
"I won't do it again" is not an acceptable defense to even the pettiest of crimes. How on earth can Joe Lieberman think it's acceptable in the case of illegal torture?

We sodomized people in this country's name. "It won't happen again" is not acceptable in any way.

2. Honest, your honor, I won't murder again - so let me go home.
Gee, wonder how that would work?

I won't rob again
I won't steal again
I won't rape again

4. I fail to see the disincentive
. . . if there aren't any prosecutions. Future administrations can point to the precedence of the last administration's get-out-of-jail-free card.

5. It would not happen under Obama but what about the next schmuck who gets in office?
Edited on Thu May-14-09 12:25 PM by Jennicut
Or what if Obama suddenly turns evil and decides torture is okay after all? (maybe he has been programmed with a brain chip....JUST KIDDING!). Seriously, we cannot trust another Prez to use good judgment.

12. Oh noes! I am scared now. Seriously, it could happen. I watched The Manchurian Candidate once
The modern one with Denzel. Creepy stuff about mind control. Dick actually sort of mind controlled Bush so maybe it already happened.

6. Joe wanted that war.
He was most helpful in getting the IWR passed. He's got blood on his hands and it's no big surprise he'd like us to forget his role in getting this illegal and immoral war bulldozed through Congress.
