Paul Begala: Mr. Cheney, You Did Not Keep Us Safe
BAM! This is what I'm talkin' about.....

"If 3,000 Americans had been killed on your watch, in an attack that could have been prevented, perhaps you'd be a little hesitant to accuse anyone else of endangering America. And if you had advocated torture, and the torture produced false information that you used to mislead America into an unwise, unjust and unwarranted war, you might be a tad sheepish about defending the use of torture.

Not Dick Cheney. Mr. Cheney has stepped up his attack on Pres. Obama's security strategy, telling CBS's Bob Schieffer that Obama's refusal to use waterboarding and other "enhanced interrogation techniques" (i.e., torture) endangers American lives.

The truth is the Bush-Cheney policies did not keep us safe, and Mr. Cheney is not a credible spokesman on issues of national security.

First, this awkward fact. When it came time to risk his hide to serve our country during the Vietnam War, Cheney got five draft deferments. He later told the Senate, "I had other priorities in the sixties than military service." John Kerry did not. Nor did John McCain. Nor Gen. Colin Powell, nor Gen. Jim Jones, nor Gen. Wes Clark, nor Jim Webb. These warriors - and so many others - strongly oppose the use of torture. They were willing to die to protect America. It is insulting for a doughy draft dodger like Mr. Cheney to suggest they would endanger us today...."

1. We've got pictures of interrogations so bad that even the Obama adminstration
is considering not releasing them because of the damage it will do America.

FUCK YOU, DICK CHENEY!

4. I bout made my bloviating neocon neighbor have a heart attack
He told me "at least bush kept us safe." I responded, "not as safe as Clinton did."

Conservatives are just way too easy to fuck with.

10. How in the hell can they say that shrub "kept us safe"?
That is unbelievable to me!

9/11 happened on shrub's watch -- do they just ignore that day?

WTF? I will never understand "freeper logic"...(an oxymoron, for sure!).

11. In the case of my neighbor
and the millions like him, they are just saying what they are instructed to say by right wing radio. They will all also tell you that they are all independent thinkers.

15. And If You Remind Them That 9/11 Happened On Bush's Watch -
...this is their reply (Really - happened to me twice): "Oh, Right! Blame Bush for 9/11!! Typical Liberal, Anti-American B.S.!"

16. That's when their right-wing talk show programming comes in....
and they blame it, like everything, on Clinton.

It's a game to see how long I can talk to a Rush/BushCo/Faux supporter before they blame something on Clinton. It's NEVER BushCo's fault. Nope.

5. Let the recriminations begin!
The Bushies ran around terrified for 7 1/2 years that this shoe would drop - that Americans would finally rouse themselves from their fear/horror induced coma and start to ask, WHY was 9/11 allowed to happen when the intelligence was clearly out there? How could the Bush administration have been so bad/lazy/foolish/complacent/incompetent to allow it to happen?

I have posted many times about the July 10th, 2001 meeting between George Tenant, Cofer Black and Condi Rice which Tenant himself called a "10 on a scale of 10" red alert concerning imminent Al Qaida activity/threats. Conveniently, this meeting was never discussed with the 9/11 commission and Condi denied any memory of the meeting which is strange, since as National Security adviser, you would think she would remember a 10 on a scale of 10 warning. She literally got on a plane and began flying around the world the day this story broke and never stopped. I'm not kidding.

So, Dick Cheney, you guys allowed 9/11 to happen when it could have been prevented and then you ALSO allowed the anthrax killings to happen on your watch and did your usual crappy investigations on that. AND THEN you let OBL get away at Tora Bora. AND THEN you fabricated a made of story about WMDs so that you could invade Iraq (like you wanted to anyway) and get a whole slew of Americans killed for basically a hoax on your part. So, NO, you did not ever keep us SAFE, you (no swearword or contemptuous phrase is adequate)s!

6. I know, it's maddening for most of us here....
Forget "theories" -- there are blatant facts that have been glossed over repeatedly and, thanks to right-wing talking points and an MIA MSM, many citizens actually believe things that HAVE NO BASIS IN FACT WHATSOEVER when it comes to the last eight years...shoot, the last 30 years.

When Cheney said on Sunday that they had a lot of things to discover about Al Qaeda on 9/12, he was -- as usual -- rewriting history. Shit, had they paid attention, they could have known PLENTY. Richard Clarke was sure trying to tell them. Everything you've written about before detailing their CRIMINAL NEGLIGENCE.

We know here that the Bush-Cheney regime was an EPIC FAIL, and it was initially proven on 9/11. We didn't know it at first, but as soon as the facts started coming out, it was obvious they failed in the worst possible way, regardless of the reasons.

The Chickenhawk Administration failed America and then spent eight years trying to cover it up and blame it, like everything, on Clinton.

7. The Bushies exploited the uber-patriotism which swept the country
(completely understandable after something as shocking as 9/11) basically to cover their own asses. That is why they were relentless fear aggregators/promoters and are to this day. Why does anyone think Dick Cheney inaugerated his Farewell Fear Mongering Tour? "Danger! Danger! You're still not safe! They're not keeping you safe!" It's to keep the fear levels hyped because that is the ONLY thing that keeps the spotlight off of them.

Fear is the only tool in the Republicans toolbox.

8. Ouch and double OUCH!
"The closest Dick Cheney has ever come to fighting for America is when he shot his lawyer in the face.

Damn, I wish Paul hadn't been so subtle!

9. It drives me nuts when old Dick says "we kept Americans safe for 7 1/2 years."
Unfortunately, it was the other 6 months that counted.
