I do not get along with my mother very well, haven't for decades.

My father passed away two years ago at 95 years of age.

Mother ended up in a nursing home within a year.

I called her - and I feel good about it.

We just chatted, no "heavies" - just a chat.

If you even THOUGHT about calling

do it -

They will not be here forever.

And for those that have already lost their mothers,

and have a surviving father . .

maybe call HIM???

It was a pretty nice visit, despite a coupla thousand miles! I LOVE that Mom's been able to get her 83 yr old head around the technology!

She is in the hospital following surgery. She will be 90 in the fall.

My mother described a recent fall where she just tripped over a wee rug metal thing,

now has a hematoma from one cheek on her bum right down to her knee

won't get a "chair" - uses her walker - but trips on stuff just the same.

Sorta hard tryna convince your own mother to stop walking . . .

38. I and my brothers and sister need to convince mom and dad

that dad can no longer care for her.

This is the second fall in 2 weeks. A week ago she fell into their golf cart they use to get around town in.
She fell on the floor and landed on the gas peddle. The golf cart took off across the lawn with her legs hanging out. Kind of funny when you think about the image but scary as hell. That may have actually done the real damage and the second fall may have been a result of the earlier one.

7. Mine lives with me.

My son called us both! I hugged her, made her tea and breakfast, and bought her flowers. She can be very difficult to live with, but she's here, she's 83, and she won't be here forever. A shared sense of the ridiculous helps...........

but we wished my mother-in-law a happy one. So far, one of my three kids has called, but I'm sure I'll hear from the other two before the day is over.

13. My mom died six years ago and my dad within a few months after her

and even though she always ridiculed the sentimentality of things like Mothers Day she always appreciated it when we took the time to think of her.

And on the bright side my wife has received calls today from one daughter, two granddaughters, one great granddaughter (at 11 months she just grunted into the phone) and one grandson (at 13 years he pretty much just grunted too). She also got calls from the two children of my late sister of whom we have more or less become surrogate parents. She did not get a call from one son.

14. I live with my mom

I feel very grateful that she is with me. She has Stage IV breast cancer so she won't be with me forever. However, she is responding well to treatment currently. Mother's Day has reminded me to try and spend more time with her.

brought the wheelchair in that she borrowed for next weeks Race for the Cure, twelve years and a new hip, so she could clean it.

Bought her a poppy seed roll and some stainless steel cleaning wipes.

35. I Talk to Her 2 -3 Times a Week (Sometimes More) But I Called Today Also

I sent her a bunch of tulips (one of her favorites) on Friday and my stepmother a pink heather plant. My soon to be sister-in-law has 2 little girls with the chicken pox so I will call her after they have gone to sleep. She's just put her house on the market as well and I think the stress is getting to her. My brother is going to there later this week to help...

My mom was born in 1908 and had me in 1950. Her sense of life was amazing.

39. My Mom, Dad, brother and I went out to a ball game Friday night.

All the women in our family are big-time baseball fans.

She said that the first baseball game she ever saw was at League Park in 1937, Indians vs Yankees.

And she still hates the Yankees.

Got to love that woman.
