8. Why are our DOCTORS being arrested instead of being allowed to do their job?
What is that? :shrug:

I don't hear anyone defending them the way the vampires at AIG were defended when they got bonuses for tanking our economy. :shrug:

at people speaking up from the audience where they were consigned, having no place at the table. :grr:

17. Kicking, recommending and leaving comments on all the sites.
Especially YouTube.

This is a fight to educate the bozos who spread the lie that government-run health care must always be inferior to what we have now. But take one look at Germany, Sweden, Canada et al to find out how well it can work.

18. Tell Baucus what you think. Leave a voicemail message at his 800 number:
HealthJustice Action Alert
Baucus' Incredible Arrogance Makes Me Angry
5/5/09
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Today Mad Max Baucus showed us what he means when he says 'single payer is off the table.' When single payer advocates politely asked for a seat at the table, where 15 insurance flunkies were waiting to testify to his Senate committee, Sen. Baucus sneered at them and told them they would get more police. That gave all of Baucus' fellow insurance flunkies (and all the other clowns in the hearing room) a big laugh. Then Baucus hypocritically told the audience how much he respected single payer, as the police were arresting eight people who just wanted to present a point of view.
I am angry about this arrogant abuse of power. If you are angry, now is your chance to tell Baucus.
Call 800-578-4171, choose option 1, and connect to his office. If no one answers, it probably is because Baucus is too chicken to even listen to the angry messages.
Alternatively, call each one of his offices in Montana.
22. Can someone please give me a quick version of why single payer is the best option?
I know the basics of single payer, but why do these doctors feel so strongly about it? Thanks, I'm just really not that well versed on this subject.
30. Like student loans, all private insurance gives is more overhead for profit, execs, ads, and
Edited on Wed May-06-09 10:37 AM by yurbud
those phone operators who either deny you or your doctor coverage of treatment you need or just put you on hold until you go away. In Sicko, one health insurance said she made decisions that cost people their lives--and got PROMOTED for doing it.
Medicare provides insurance coverage with far less overhead cost.
Other nations with single payer or national health care (gov't employees doctors directly) spend less on health insurance, cover everyone, and get better outcomes (lower infant mortality and people live longer).
Supporting LINKS from Sicko:
The arguments against single payer sound like more convincing arguments against private insurance:
lack of choice of doctors, cost, delays, denial of service, rationing--anyone who has dealt with private insurance has probably experienced three or four of these. The most aggravating is that the delays and denial of service are how they make a profit. You or your doctor has to call to get permission for treatment. If they deny it, you are SOL. You can't get other insurance because you have a pre-existing condition, and before you qualify for public aid, you have to spend yourself into the poorhouse.
If you had a problem with coverage under single payer, you would have a court of last appeal: your congressman or senator, who would lean on the bureaucracy. Currently, your congress works for private insurance companies because they have more money to give in campaign donations, and probably more importantly after they leave office, the companies can offer them jobs as lobbyists, CEO's, consultants, board members, etc., bribes which mere voters have no means to offer.
The only question in my mind is not whether we should have single payer, but whether we should execute health insurance executives for intentional mass murder for profit or whether we should just give them life in prison.
