I hate my cable company
Cablevision. They took away MSNBC last night right as I was about to turn on Keith for the night.

I still get it upstairs in the bedroom, but I can't watch it without a box, which they charge extra for. They did not take away CNN or Faux.

I'm tempted to write them a nastygram.

6. I'd have no way of getting online without them
I have no landline phone so DSL and Dialup are not an option and would cost me more.

IF there's ever a way to get online wtihout the evil cable company, I'd be the first to sign up.

20. I'm in NJ
I only have a cellphone (Sprint). I haven't had a landline phone since I moved out of my parents house (and that was theirs)

My sister uses it. She likes it fine. You could check and see if it's available in your area.

3. I hate mine too, Comcast.
They took away CSpan 2 several months ago. They have a monopoly so what can you do?

7. I agree! And when I called to complain about it
They said "It's not gone. It's been moved to channel 184, which is available with your digital cable receiver."

"I don't have digital cable," I answered.

"Oh," came the reply. "Well our basic digital package is only a million dollars a month. I can sign you up right now..."

5. Comcast in western PA (and likely elsewhere) did the same thing a while back
MSNBC is now somewhere around 260, and therefore only accessible to digital cable, while CNN and Fox are still available with basic.

They also moved CSPAN2 and CSPAN3 to 184 and 185, respectively.

9. Can I butt in? I really Enjoy Dish Network!
They did take away Smithsonian Channel a couple months back...but everything all my other channels are still there...

I had to downgrade from 200 channels to 100 due to the loss of my job and I don't get MSNBC now...but C-span and C-span2 are still there...

Never got C-span3.

They've added a few more channels...and they want to charge you more for the HD channels...when most of them are broadcast free...this part drives me crazy.

But overall, Dish Network is pretty good...

And besides, Dish is not owned by News Corp...that keeps me loyal...

I've had Direct Tv reps call my home and I tell them straight out I won't support their business because of the politics...the manufacturing of "infonews"...nope won't do it...

What money I have is mine to spend and I can't in good conscience support the 'misinformation' they spread...

They hung up on me! The *ricks!

10. may i ask how you get online
that's my only reason for keeping cable at this point. I have no landline phone and have no intentions of getting one.

12. I have Verizon Fios Service
I can't say my loyalties are anywhere as strong to Verizon as with Dish...but Verizon Fios is really fast and consistant...that's about all I can say that's "good" about it...

I've read about Hughes Net...satilite internet...I checked it out before I signed up with Verizon...they, Hughes Net, was too expensive..

With Verizon I get local and long distance free and speed on the internet...it runs me about $90 a month with taxes...before just for the phone I was spending $45-$60 a month...

I don't have cell service at all anymore...got rid of it back in 2003...too much money and I really didn't like the trends I was seeing...Big Brother and all...

15. I spend $40/month on my cellphone
My phone goals are one phone where I can be reached at all the time. And I text more than I talk (I despise talking on the phone). I also value my privacy too much, and I loathe the concept of paying a phone company NOT to have my number public (listed).

I'm waiting for something to come along without the requirement of a phone line.

16. FiOS does not require a phone line. In some areas, DSL does not either.
FiOS is fabulous for TV and internet. I do have the "wired" phone service too, but it's not required.

11. Fire them. Sure you miss some things the first month, but after that it's great
and it makes your world seem less cluttered. You're not going to miss any REAL news, just a lot of the pop culture fluff

13. Comcast must be different where you are.
A year or so ago, Comcast called and INSISTED on installing a digital box. I pressed them on the cost of the box and they said -- again and again -- that it was FREE.

So, I have the box and get MSNBC on TWO channels. (And C-Span 1 & 2 on several channels -- but not C-Span 3).

18. This will be happening more and more often in the future.
Edited on Tue May-05-09 11:25 AM by clbuck
Here in Portland, Comcast is shutting off all analog Expanded Basic channels this month, and is forcing everyone to get a full-fledged cable box, or a small digital adapter. Only the Limited Basic channels (the local stations, plus public access channels) will remain in analog. Unless you have a new TV with a QAM tuner, you won't be able to simply plug the cable into the back of your TV anymore.

They're doing this to make room for more HD channels, and for faster Internet speeds, since analog cable channels take up MUCH more bandwidth than digital cable channels.

21. Suddenlink is the worst cable company, and our area is stuck with it.
They're far worse than any cable company I've ever had.

Whatever you do, don't ever get Suddenlink's allegedly high speed internet. It went out several times a week, usually for many hours at a time.

They also link into Faux "News" video on their website.

I fucking hate their guts, I wish I had a choice as I'd switch in a heartbeat.
