What will happen to Condoleezza Rice?
The latest developments are interesting. Yes, yes, she "pulled a Nixon" on tape. (see cenk/huffpo/washingtonindependent http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph... ) But, what will they eventually mean? Any speculation? Have any domestic lawyers (aside from John Dean), judges, prosecutors, commissions, or other authorities published any reactions?

Timeline Recap:

Condoleezza Rice approved 'torture' techniques
By Toby Harnden in Washington
Last Updated: 9:51PM BST 23 Apr 2009
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/...
The new timeline suggests Miss Rice played a more significant role than she acknowledged in written testimony to the Senate Armed Services Committee submitted in the autumn.

... In the autumn, Miss Rice stated to the Senate Armed Services Committee that she had attended meetings where the CIA interrogation request was discussed but could not recall details.

Days after Miss Rice spoke to Mr Tenet, the Justice Department approved the use of waterboarding in a top secret memo. Abu Zubaydah was subjected to waterboarding some 83 times in August 2002. ...

(Judge Baltasar Garzon) Spanish judge opens Guantanamo investigation
By DANIEL WOOLLS, Associated Press Writer Daniel Woolls, Associated Press Writer Wed Apr 29, 12:40 pm ET
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090429/ap_on_re_eu/eu_spai...
... He said documents declassified by the new U.S. government suggest the practice was systematic and ordered at high levels of the US government.
Garzon's move is separate from a complaint by human rights lawyers that seeks charges against six specific Bush administration officials they accuse of creating a legal framework to permit torture of suspects at Guantanamo Bay and other U.S. detention facilities. ...

Then, the Stanford Video
Rice sayz:
I didn't authorize anything. I conveyed the authorization of The Administration to The Agency

Countdown: John Dean - Condi Rice Admits Conspiracy to Torture? Thu Apr-30-09 09:55 PM (Video)
(John Dean was White House Council during the time of Nixon)
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph...
She was trying to say she hadn't authorized anything, then she proceeded to say that she indeed passed orders along to the CIA to proceed in torture if it was legal by the standard of the Department of Justice. This really puts her in the middle of a "common plan" as it's known in international law, or a "conspiracy" as it's known in American law, and this indeed is a crime, if it indeed happened the way we think it did happen.

...throwing things up there to try and protect herself.

These kinds of statements are going to come back and be very interesting to any investigator.

(Obama) is indeed in violation of (the second part of the Geneva Conventions) if the United States does not undertake investigation of this, or ultimately prosecution if that is necessary.

Condis Really Bad Day
By Scott Horton May 1, 12:34 PM, 2009
http://www.harpers.org/archive/2009/05/hbc-90004883
... (6) Whereas the Senate Intelligence Committees summary shows Rice giving authorization for waterboarding, Rice has a different recollection. I didnt authorize anything. I conveyed the authorization of the administration to the agency. This is dicing things very finely. But I think I know how Judge Garzn will understand this: Rice just confessed to a focal role in a joint criminal enterprise. Nixon White House counsel John Dean, who has a lot of first-hand experience with the legal issues in play, had the same take: Rice just admitted to her role in a conspiracy to torture, a felony under 18 U.S.C. sec 2340A.

So I score this: Stanford student 6, Rice 0. Rice needs to do some homework before her next appearance on campus. But first perhaps shed better hire a good lawyer.

2. Next to bush she was the dumbest of the whole crew
So it might be a good idea to attempt to catch her in these type of situations where she could blurt out the truth.

However if I were she I'd stay out of small aircraft. The Dick still has a lot of stooges out there.

37. there was one talent she had along with the rest of the Bush Jr Crew
and that was Revenge. As far as the rest goes, Ms. Rice said some very stupid things and needed to be called on them.

Off to the tower with her (never to come back).

13. Yes. see Condoleezza Rice's Tell, Judah Grunstein, 01 May 2009 WPR Blog

Second, this might be a stretch, but I couldn't help but notice how dramatically Rice's body language changes the moment, very early on, that she mentions "enhanced interrogation." Beginning with a relaxed talking manner, her hands clasped behind her back, she suddenly becomes very physically demonstrative, with her arms and hands coming out to form what looks like a defensive shield around her body. I'm not a behavioral psychologist -- any more than any of us is, I suppose -- but this struck me as what poker players call a "tell," revealing a great discomfort in discussing these subjects.

Also, this article confirms something else I noticed, namely, the curious choice of the word "tyrants". Tyrants? Come on... really? Ms. Rice, you're STILL playing the Saddam angle? Really????

17. Flip Her...Squeeze Her...
One thing I've noticed about Condi is she's a very lousy liar and an even worse poker player. She's been involved in a lot of crimes and left herself wide open on many occasions. In the end, her tenure at State was a disaster primarily due to the tread marks on her head (and not designer shoes either). Her only allegiance was to georgie as one by one she was thrown under the bus by others in the regime. I don't see much love lost, and if anything, she would make a very valuable witness in gaining justice on others.

I don't think Condi had any real input into the torture since her role, like Gonzo, was to be a "fixer" and "enabler". Complicit, yes...but not behind the worst crimes. However, she was at ground zero in knowing who did what where and when things went down. I think a smart prosecutor could rattle her cage and the names and dates would come flowing like wine.

26. It would be refreshing to hear her truthfully answer questions she has been
dodging for at least 8 years.

The questions ask into her role in support of torture at the behest of her superiors in the Bush administration, and into the specifics of all of their complicity in same.

They are good questions and are owed the respect of proper anwers from Dr. Rice which to date have not been forthcoming.

35. It's possible. Under judicial pressure, many a loyal alliance has been
known to fall to pieces.

I don't know exactly what venue will prompt questioning of Rice and others, but a skilled attorney could make it very difficult for any number of Bush administration folks.

Hunter S. Thompson, commenting on Nixon officials in the public exposure of the Watergate-era transgressions, wrote that Nixon's men "turned on each other like rats in a slumfire."

Zowie.
