What states would you kick out if you could?
I'm just throwing this out here, because it's been on my mind and the news is a little slow this weekend.

But you know all his silly talk concerning the Texas secession movement? It got me thinking how that whole notion might be turned on its head.

<skip>

But has anyone ever thought about kicking certain states out of the union?

<skip>

Of course, I'd first mess with Texas. If the Texans want out, then fine. But only on our terms.

They wouldn't be allowed to leave this solid comfort. They'd be kicked out.

<skip>

You can probably think of other states worthy of expulsion. Alaska, for instance, given that its citizens take in more federal money than they pay out in taxes.

And because it would mean Sarah Palin would finally have to get a passport.

Or Delaware on account of it's smaller than some counties out west.

<skip>

What states would you disunite from these United States and why?

1. None of them!
It's the 21% that are the problem, not the states per se. I see what you're saying, but you are asking people to condemn whole states here, or is it a joke?

I think this kind of sentiment is not helpful to those of us who are living near the loonies and don't want to emulate them. Thanks for the support.

14. It's the same thing here...
But you can't judge a state by the actions of SOME of it's population. If that was the standard for
continued statehood there would certainly be less than 50 states.

I'm joking! There are good libs in all the states I don't care for. I'd just kick out the wingnuts. Utah is a state with a lot of natural beauty. It would be a shame to just give it to people who want to strip mine it and dump toxic waste in it.

5. I support breaking up the US
because I don't think it's healthy for us to be a superpower. Our self-identification as one has led to an emphasis on militarization and dominance over welfare.

However, my solution would not be to force out any individual states, but just to break us into a few countries based on region.

42. I did not say it was ethnic cleansing.
But it is close. Identify a group of humans with a set of beliefs and
physically remove them from your space. How many millions have died
based on that premise? Sorry to say that what you are suggesting is bigotry
as well.

Devaluing others based on their beliefs, their religion, their heritage or
anything else always ends badly. Please think carefully before contributing
to this common human tendency.

Why kick out the "bad states" and leave the blue states saddled with the problems of the past? Better to kick out the "good" states and let them start fresh with their own government (and go with them).

To be honest, though, why would anyone want to kick out any states?

Please listen to Obama's 04 convention speech one more time.
That speech has the answer to your question.

There always will be crazys, like the sucessionists in Texas and the Teabaggers,too.
They just cannot accept that their way of thinking is out of power.

As Obama says we are one nation. Let's follow his example going forward.

50. It's easy being a liberal in a blue city and state like mine.
I can't imagine how challenging it must be trying to hold your own in such red areas, even having the DNC turn their backs on you folks until Howard Dean brought about the 50 state strategy. I wholly admire the Dems in red states, having to work with no money/support from the national party and then to come to DU for friendship and support to find ignorant bashing of your state. I think it's awful. :hug: Hell, it was the Texas Fighting Dems who took on Tom Delay, fled to OK to halt the house quorum, causing Tom Delay to call out Homland Security to find them. :toast: Texas Dems.
