For science nerds only, Patient Zero identified
and it is NOT the kid at La Gloria either.

Her name is Adela María Gutiérrez Cruz, who died in the city of Oaxaca and was working as a Census worker in the riverine zone

She died from atypical fever at a local hospital and tissue samples were taken since it was atypical pneumonia

Some were sent from Mexico City to Canada where it was identified, and confirmed by CDC

http://www.aeromental.com/2009/04/27/identifican-al-paciente-cero-de-la-influenza-porcina/

Yep, for science nerds

And damn you specter, now this will sink

:-)

I know, this is the NEWS cycle at work

3. If she was going house to house she may have infected a lot of people
I heard this morning that you can infect other people before you feel the symptoms yourself.

6. Yep you got it
Also she was taken to the hospital when she was already VERY SICK by family

A common pattern down there... you do not go see the doctor unless you have to...

And that is a cultural effect

5. I wonder she she got it from.
Maybe she contracted the flu while making her census rounds.

If she was traveling about prior to becoming ill that's where the investigators need to look.

7. She may also be the vessel where the final move came
like those two privates at Ft Riley back in 1918

8. She would have been the first fatality, but not necessarily the first to have the flu
Since the mortality rate seems to be pretty low, it might have propagated through several people before it got to her.

we need to do something that is done regularly

TIME LINE and epidemiological tracking

In fact, Cordoba even suggested today it might have originated here

Now many folks will go... HE's NUTS... and of course it might be political, get some heat off his back and that of the PAN

I am going... what is the time line for very early infections in the US?

And I agree with the Spanish Health minister, time to call this the NORTH AMERICAN FLU, like we have done with the Spanish flu (didn't start there but hey), the Asian flu and the other one

And here is the time line

10. Not so sure about this. I'll wait to hear confirmation from the WHO.
It takes awhile to sort out the data and draw connections - premature I think.

Read the timeline, HE MIGHT have a case... that will make Buchannan's head explode

13. LOL. Even after 90 years -
there is still controversy on where the 1918 pandemic started. It was called the Spanish Flu but it probably started in Kansas. ;-)

14. Good! That Should Help A Great Deal Epidemiologically
They should be able to more accurately model vectors and whatnot.

16. Suffice it to say, they are going back to boy in la gloria
in veracruz,

But yes, it will help with the damn modeling

Geographically Veracruz and Oaxaca city have a mountain range in between and two major riverine systems

But they are still geographically not that far apart... though one is in the Gulf Coast the other in the Pacific coast

have come from the US

CDC data

Here is a time line for you
