How green is your office coffee?
What kind of set up do you have in your office? I am looking to switch out the coffee service at my NPO (K-Cups) for more Green options. Anyone have any ideas or tips? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

2. How are K-cups not green?
Aside from the individually packed servings, which you can easily get around by using one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Keurig-K-Cup-Reusable-Coffee-Filter/dp/B000DLB2FI/ref=pd_bxgy_hg_img_b (which we use, btw). The machine uses less electricity than firing up an entire pot.

11. K-Cups can't be recycled. How does that filter hold up to wear and tear? I heard
they break down pretty easy. Would it fit a large size office machine? Would it hold up to 80 to 100 people using it a day? Any insight is much appreciated. Thanks.

12. We only have 4 coffee drinkers in the house
so we are probably not a good 'case study', but we rinse it out under the faucet with each use and it's lasted since a year ago xmas (when we were first given the machine). I really like Dunkin' Donuts coffee so this was an economical way to feed the habit. :D

What size is the office Keurig? Don't they all use the same size k-cups? If so then yes it would fit, but you need to understand that people will complain about the inconvenience of not being able to just throw their favorite pod in the machine. Personally, I'd stick with what you have and just make everybody have their own coffee cup (no throw-aways).

16. already got rid of the throw away cups. Switched to a biodegradable
pod system. Now the people don't like the taste anymore and I need to look at new options. I'm thinking airpots, but then people complain about selction and having to brew their own and clean the pots. I've determined this morning that people suck in my office. They say they want to be green, but don't want to put the work in.

17. Here's the best idea on the page...
Get rid of the coffee and stick to water.

Real McCoy only , Fair Trade whenever possible and just made using a cafetiere.

As an aside - our UK supermarkets now only sell Fair Trade bananas and hopefully that will follow with coffee etc too.

8. I bought a thermos the other day because I was sick of carrying
my coffee in one hand riding my bike to work. And sick of getting rid of all the giant styrofoam cups from Dunks. So now I get SBucks, with 10 cents off for no cup.

9. I don't drink the office coffee, adn I don't use disposable cups for what I do drink there
My own stuff made at home is way, way better, and I need to drink it before attempting to drive to the office.

10. "Green" is a marketing ploy
The advertisers say "jump" and we obligingly ask "how high?" So green-ism has turned into just another way to train part of the consumer base -- this time, the emerging post-New-Left Liberals.

So do what you can without turning it into a matter of absurdity, and you'll be green enough. Education will also take us a lot further than hashing it out over what kind of CFLs or brands of coffee we buy, because that education will eventually guide our businesses and governments.

The "real" progress will be made by us directing our governments to make fundamental changes in basic industrial, energy, and development processes. Even there, it's going to take more than just a few commercials showing windmills, but people are starting to realize that.

14. I agree with you
Being 'green' has replaced terms such as frugality, good stewardship, not wasteful, cleaning up after ourselves, etc. The attitude of 'I deserve a green badge of honor' is ridiculous--congratulations, you're doing what should have been done as a good human from the beginning.
