New Millenium Business Academy teacher free without bail after bomb threat

The unhinged teacher who barricaded himself in a Bronx classroom for three hours and threatened to blow up the school Friday strolled out of court Saturday a free man.

A Bronx judge released Francisco Garabitos without bail a day after the computer teacher locked himself in a classroom at New Millennium Business Academy Middle School and forced the evacuation of 1,200 students. snip

Garabitos' breakdown came after he was accused of punching a sixth-grader in the face and throwing him against a wall, a source said.

2. I mean you think he would have been held for "observation" for a few days at least

Jailed on Friday and walks out of the courtroom on his own recognisance on Saturday? He didn't even spend a whole day in jail.

6. That must be some of the geographical slang I have seen discussed around here before?
That is a common thing to say in these parts of the country. Interesting. Glad you brought it up.

7. talk about your Bronx Bombers
If this were a public school it'd make sense, the suspect would already be assigned to a desk job, but beating up a sixth grader seems to cross that line from revenge fantasy to being an actual menace to society. I went to high school in the Bronx, pop. ~5000 at the time (the school not the bronx), and there wasn't much manpower for prosecuting simple assault amidst the homicide and rape investigations, so they'll probably rehire the teacher with combat pay. He sounds a little burned out though:
"There is no one else inside, but over 500 teachers are behind political bars in reassignment," read one note, apparently referring to the so-called rubber room where teachers under investigation for disciplinary action are sent.
