tainted pet food=kidney failure > transplant surgeon urges human kidneys be for sale

I can't help noticing the coincidence of timing of these stories. I think most of us have some knowledge of the Menu Foods pet food scandal going on, which has now caused other brands to be recalled "as a precaution".

Pet Foods Recall Expanded to New Wet brand
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070331/ap_on_go_ot/pet_food_recall

The major effect on pets is kidney failure. What's causing it has been blamed on more than one "ingredient" and posters here on DU have commented about the fact that a source company has not been named, wondering if this company is being protected because perhaps they might also provide products for human consumption as well and don't want to cause a major panic.

Then yesterday, this story was posted on DU several times along with debate about the topic:

Surgeon Proposes Sales of Kidneys
http://abcnews.go.com/WNT/Health/story?id=2977619&page=1

So I know organ donations are already lower than what's needed currently, but is anyone else here wondering if someone might already be aware that this tainted wheat gluten has gotten into the human food supply and they're expecting a massive need for kidneys in the not too distant future?

It crossed my mind.

1. Could be
It's obvious that China has a massive food safety problem and will need to get regulations put into place before the rest of the world will feel at all safe in buying their grain.

The problem will only get worse until those regs are in place. Once greed takes over, safety is completely ignored.

Can you imagine how fast the FDA would have slapped an import ban on grain from China in any other administration?

It's obvious this gang just doesn't give a shit about anybody but themselves.

Pass it along.

2. ADM, Cargill, Agland, etc..
Every supplier of wheat gluten for pet food also supplies human food.
I hope to be proven wrong but I have no reason to believe that this problem
is isolated to just pet food. It's shocking that the press has not done
the least amount of investigation... they won't even name the suppliers.
