Hero
I'm a middle aged guy and I come from this part of the country (WV), and I do find his earlier stances appalling.
However, Old Dogs can learn new tricks. No matter what this man spoke about or stood for, it was always about US (not me), Coal miners, unions, etc. Now that I'm a little more seasoned, and despite mountain top mining, strip mining, etc., I look back, and he is still one of my HEROES.

3. As they say, nobody is perfect. The hero is the one that does the right
thing when the chips are down.

Us Liberals believe in forgiveness, we also believe a person can grow and change.

6. Byrd is to be admired for his stand on the Iraq War.
He was vocal about his opposition and it's a shame the rest of Congress didn't follow his lead. :hi:

8. How many of us would shudder at some of our earliest actions?
The totality of this man's life is something worthy of the title 'hero'. He may be the last of the great statesmen of this country, and his speech on the Senate floor the day we entered the Iraq war, Today, I weep for my country... should be seared into the hearts of every congress critter that voted for it. Not to mention that he's one damn fine fiddle player to boot!

How quickly time flies. I'm not sure how much longer we'll have this wonderful man on this earth, but I'll join you in feeling quite proud to have had him walk the same earth I have .. even if I haven't ever stepped a foot in WV.

10. A Man...
that believe's in his heart, between right and wrong.

It's called INTEGRITY (I Know i spelled it wrong)

Few know it, few show it, and even fewer know the concept of it.
