GM is shutting down all it's US production plants for the summer
At least that is what I just heard on AM radio News. It said the workers will still receive most of their wages and still be covered with their Health Insurance but this will be devastating for Auto parts makers and distributors. Like Good Year and AC Delco not to even mention the truck drivers that deliver these parts across the nation..Isn't there some more money available we can give to AIG? I think they need a few more company retreats with Spa and Gym...

1. They usually shut down for four or five weeks anyway
while it's not good news, it's being overblown to some extent.

3. Quick! Congress should rush through another multi-billion package for the CEOs
and Executives!! They need BONUSES to keep these plants open!!! Give to the folks at the top that keep everything moving, and the little people lower down the line will have jobs, and job security!!!

:sarcasm:

They have coordinated this to line up with the normal shut down time to switch the lines over to the new models anyway, so at least some thought was put into this. I do feel bad for everyone this will impact. Unfortunately, the bills don't shut down when the work stops. :(

4. It really doesn't make sense to continue manufacturing
vehicles that aren't being sold. Until unemployment stabilizes and people have any kind of confidence in the economy why build new cars and trucks? It would be like building new homes when there is no market for them.

5. This is a "Duh" moment
It doesn't make sense to continue manufacturing vehicles that aren't being sold.

The management at GM knew all about the problems they had with respect to the quality of other car makers, but chose to go for the short term profit instead of the long term survivability of the company. Now they are in trouble.

The management at GM wouldn't even be in half the mess they are in right now if they had worked with the Unions to improve quality rather that treat the Unions as an adversary.

The management has now wrecked the company and is hurting every one of the company's employees all for short term profits.
